DDJ 1000 Mixer Lag

I am noticing some noticeable lag on both cue listening and applying beat FX. I have my buffer set low, which helps with the beat FX, but the lags when a track is on the cue and I’m beatmatching make a sort of flamming sound so it’s hard to tell if I’m right on. The issue goes away if both tracks are on the cue or if both are on the master, but it’s kind of annoying that I can’t control level well. Any thoughts?

Can you post up your computer specs and what you have the buffer value at?

Hi!

If I understood correctly what Daniel is talking about, then I can confirm some lag.

In my case lag appears when:

  • CUE is enabled on booth monitor (hearing master from phones output)
  • Beat FX enabled and applied to master channel

What happens: I start mixing in a new track with volume fader on its channel turned all the way down and CUE is enabled (no sound routed to master, but hearing through phones output). I match the beat, turn CUE off, start increasing volume on the channel and hearing, that beat is actually not matched.

This issue doesn't appear, if Beat FX is turned off during entire process of mixing in a new track, meaning, that after turning CUE off on the channel and starting mixing it into master output, beat remains matched.

What I believe is happening, that CUE of the mixer channels is probably routed directly into phones output (bypassing Beat FX), but CUE of booth monitor is routed through Beat FX, which introduces some delay (probably due to sound processing in the Beat FX module).

This happens regardless how good computer specs are. Tried both on my laptop with Intel i3-2350M (8 gigs of RAM) and PC with i7-4790K (16 gigs of RAM). Buffer size is 256 samples on both systems.

That’s exactly what I mean. I believe I’m running an i5 with 16 gigs of Ram and a 256 buffet too. Is there a way to get the master into the phones without the booth cue?

Daniel, only way I know of is to set Master Output to PHONES in the rekordbox settings. Interestingly enough, aforementioned issue goes away at the same time, so here's another info on when this issue appears - when Master Output is set to MASTER.

You remain ability to CUE mixer channels, but it looks like you stop hearing Beat FX (applied to master) at the same time. When applied to some specific mixer channel, you hear Beat FX. Quite weird.

At 64 samples sound gets very distorted, lowest I can go to keep sound quality is 128.

It helps a bit, but doesn't fix the issue completely - beat mismatch is still very noticeable once new track is sent to master.

Agreed. Even the tiniest bit of delay makes accurate beatmatching really tough. Also, very few people are able to run audio I/O at that low of a buffer size. Do you have any plans to fix the issue?

I'm just gathering feedback and details at this time, thanks - will keep you informed.

Hello!

I have followed the indicated steps and the incidence when activating the Release FX button (jump in the track) is not solved:

The fimware is updated.

And lowering the level of the audio bufer until it does not cause the jump (below 100) implies that a level of lactation is not acceptable.

Apart from that it is a contradiction that if the selector is in the channel of the track the error does not occur, regardless of the level of the audio buffer and if instead if the position is Master.

My Pioneer DJ dealer tells me that it is an error that occurs in all sold DDJ-1000.

Can you give me a solution? With the current configuration the product does not meet a minimum quality standard.

Thanks in advance

@Alex > We're aware of the complaints and the product team is investigating. Thanks for your patience.

I assure you, this is not a "quality standard" issue.

Hi, Pulse.

It's been a month since your last message.
Any news from the product team so far?

Best regards!

Hello,

Do you have any news about it? It has been more than 2 months since the purchase and we still have not been able to use the controller normally.
But a solution is possible shortly can you tell us how to proceed for the return of the product?

Thanks in advance.

I wonder then if the beatFX is processed through the laptop and not through hardware when using BeatFX on master mode.  Seems like it would make more sense to route it through the dedicated hardware (which should be closer to real-time).

I noticed this phenomena too when I had my DDJ1000.  A temporary fix is to turn beatFX OFF when matching up tracks then turn it on once both channels are 'live'.

Chase, mixer is hardware one 100%.

You can have controller not connected to a laptop, but still apply effects (sound colors and beat fx), if you feed sound into the mixer using line inputs (and of course changing input type on corresponding mixer channel to "line").

Aleksei,

I know the beatFX are hardware when using phono/line in. But this issue with with rekordbox DJ (so using it in internal mode). In that case, it appears that the processing it software-side and not in the hardware, thus causing some lag issues that people are mentioning.

Hopefully this is just a firmware fix away! :)

Latest firmware 9.05 with rekordbox 5.3.0 beta4 seem to have this issue fixed - no sound stutter when turning beat fx on/off on master channel, no sound delay after mixing channel into master with beat fx on.

Waiting for full release :)

how can I turn off beat FX guys? I'm ready to throw this DDJ 1000 against the wall. Man how long does it take tot solve this problem that already mentioned for a year.

I just need to beat, all other shizzle and FX are not my thing. Dry techno like back in the days with vynil. So please if you could explain how to get that annoying delay our my headphone channel... that would be awesome! Thnx al lot

Hello, is there a fix for this coming soon? I am experiencing the same issue a lag/delay on my audio cue and FX I recently bought a BOSE SoundTouch 30 using rca to aux for connection and there seems to be delay. When I use my small Sony XB10 applying the same cords they work just fine ..

I would suspect that the DSP of the BOSE is causing the audio delay.

If the output to one device works fine but there is a delay on another, don't you think the issue is likely the outboard device and not the DDJ-1000 itself?
