Using multiple controllers with rekordbox

Hi all,

I'm a bedroom DJ looking into expanding my setup. I'm currently using a 2-channel Pioneer DDJ-RB controller with rekordbox and I was wondering if by purchasing another DDJ-RB i can use both of them in rekordbox in order to control 4 decks; and if so, how to do so.

I attempted something similar yesterday at a friends place, just to test it out: using an XDJ RX in conjunction with my DDJ-RB, but unfortunately, Rekordbox would only allow input from one of the devices at any one point; I could browse the collection/load and play with tracks with the RB, but the RX would not respond, then I would unplug the RB and the RX would be able to browse, load, play, etc.. then if I plugged the RB back in and unplug the RX it would be active, and so on and so forth...

We thought maybe we had to remap the midi inputs first, but in the rekordbox midi settings page only one of the devices would be displayed at any one time, and midi learn functionality would not work for the device not displayed/active, so no progress was made on that front.

We did manage to control 4 decks just with the RX, by using the "Deck 1/2" button while the RX was in MIDI mode, but even when the RX was only controlling decks 3 and 4 in rekordbox, it was still not receiving any of the inputs from the RB.

And controlling 4 decks with the RX by switching between 2 physical decks gave us both headaches, so that's not ideal.

Is there anything super obvious that we might have missed?

Cheers!

No - simply put, rekordbox dj is not intended for use with multiple "similar" devices. You may be able to use a CDJ or XDJ (1000 or 700, not RX/2) in addition to a DDJ unit, or a DDJ with a DJM, but two DDJs will conflict and thus not be able to control the software simultaneously.

I don't have a chart of what-works-with-what, but the general rule of "if it's the same, one at a time" is pretty on-point.

Can I connect 2 different USB midi devices to rekordbox? Like DDJ-RB and Alesis V25 or Arturia MiniLab MkII 25?

When you say different controlers, do you think that I can match a DDJ-400 and a DDJ-800 on the same computer at the same time to create 4 tracks?
