Unable to select digital audio output device in Rekordbox

Hi all,

after updating my desktop computer's hardware and OS, I cannot select the digital coaxial out of my soundcard in Rekordbox. Once I select it in the audio menu it will show "no audio device" after 3 seconds.
Other applications as AIMP music player, games and so on have no problem to use the device.

Here's my setup:
Windows 10 x64 Home with latest Rekordbox version 5.2.2
Mainboard MSIZ270 Gaming M3 with optical out
Terratec Aureon 7.1 PCIe with opt. IN and OUT and coaxial IN and OUT (the last one's the one I'd like to assign for the Rekordbox output)
DJM-900

After trying out quite some stuff, I already disabled all Windows output devices except the digital out (S/PDIF)(C-Media High Definition Audio Device), which is the Terratec coaxial out.
The diveice properties are set to 2 ch, 16 bit, 48 kHz; no exclusive mode.
As I said before, other applications have no problem to use this output.

In Rekordbox I can see the device as well and choose it. But Rekordbox won't be able to use the device.
When I chose the mainboards digital output, everything worked normally.

Any ideas what I can do?
Does anyone experience the same issues with C-Media devices or that Terratec Soundcard?

@Nafets > My recommendation would be to use rekordbox in "PC Master Output" mode by clicking the icon at the top of the rekordbox window when you have your controller connected. That will allow you to output audio to your computer's primary audio device as well as the controller.

Try connect on usb. I believe Rekordbox talks ASIO with the PC. Not sure you can run performance mode with SPDIF.

On ASIO kill all recording devices in Windows.

@Pulse > Thank you. Sounds good, but where do I find the icon? I'm not using Recordbox DJ, but the basic version. I cannot find "PC Master Output" anywhere. ^^

Ah, in which case that button doesn't exist. If you're just using EXPORT mode, you don't need to worry about that.

You can certainly select that device, provided it's available. Here you can see the variety of outputs listed on my Windows installation, including a SPDIF digital out.

It could simply be a conflict with the driver and rekordbox. Have you tried setting that as your primary output device for Windows?

Well, probaly it's really an conflict between driver and rekordbox, since this problem occured after I set up my new computer with Windows 10, new soundcard. With my old hardware it worked with on board digi coaxial out without problems.

I tried various scenarios, selecting different standard devices in windows and then trying to chose my prefered device in rekordbox again. Nothing worked.

The pic shows my audio options:
1. On board digital optical output (I can use that one with rekordbox, but obviously there's no optical in at the DJM-900 :P)
2. PCIe Soundcard with digital outs and ins, both optical and coaxial - I would like to use that one, but rekordbox cannot work with it and will toggle to "no audio device" after selection
3. DJM-900nxs

My use case is the following.
- I link rekordbox to my players via ethernet/LAN
- when I'm recording a set I'm using a SW, that uses the DJM's signal output via USB connection (3a/3b)
- at the same time I might want to load a track in rekordbox to set cues spontaniously or to pre-listen a track via digital coaxial connection from computer to DJM digital input (2a/2b)

Problem:
- recording SW and rekordbox do not want to share the DJM-900 sound drivers (2a/2b). So that one goes to the recording SW, while I can still access my rekordbox tracks vie LAN link

Also when I'm starting the recording SW first, and rekordbox afterwards, rekordbox won't be able to use the 3a/3b anymore. So I thought, maybe Windows has been occupying my desired device (2a/2b) somehow. But after assigning standard windows audio to my mainboard (1), restarting Windows, starting rekordbox rightaway, trying to selcect device 2 - it still wouldn't work. :(

Now in my perception C-Media is a quite common player in the field of sound processors. Is there a chance to get an update, that might fix that issue?

You're wanting to do something out of the normal operation case, might I suggest you look into using a 3rd party software like Voicemeeter Banana to achieve the end goal? It allows flexible use of hardware and virtual software audio routing and may just do what you need.
