Almost every gig, a 1-2sec. audio stutter :-(

Hey guys, I hope someone can help me out here...

I'm having this problem for a while now with Rekordbox Performance, and I can't seem to find the solution.

Let's say, 50% of my dj-nights (3-6 hours) go by flawlessly.

But the other half, on a certain random moment during the night, a 1-2 sec. audio stutter appears.

Pretty sure it is not a Rekordbox-issue, nor a Pioneer-hardware issue. Tried different updates of Rekordbox, played with all kinds of Pioneer Club hardware, so no problem there. Last time, I was playing with the CDJ-2000NXS2's & DJM900NXS2 as the soundcard. But this issue still exists. So I'm guessing it has something to do with my MacBook Pro :-(

Model is from Mid 2012, 2.5Ghz Intel Core i5, 8 GB Ram 1600 MHz DDR3

OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

Audio Buffer 512 samples (11.6 ms)

I allways play with only Rekordbox open, NO WiFi.

Could there maybe be any way that I can find out why the music/Rekordbox stutters sometimes?

Also, when I start up Rekordbox Performance for a gig, I can start playing music without a problem. BUT EVERY FIRST TIME when I use a "special" feature like an autoloop, Sync, MasterTempo, it also gives a tiny stutter... And after that, it doesn't stutter anymore when using autoloop, synq, mastertempo... Only the FIRST time of every gig...

Can I maybe find a log or something in Rekordbox when an audio-stutter has occured??

I'm going to suggest you step the audio buffer up one notch to see how it performs, because it's most likely an underrun when the "special" feature is used. If that doesn't resolve it, step it up one more and see if it changes.

It´s not Mac, same problem on Windows machines. The stutter occurs on every setup, but on the one you mentioned (CDJ + DJM 900) rekordbox always stops working after 30 - 50 minutes.

Ok Pulse,

before my gig last night, when still at home, increased the buffer to  768 and closed Rekordbox.

Went to the bar, opened up Rekordbox, made all the connections to the cdj's and djm900 mixer and started my gig. Mixed 2-3 tracks, no problems. But then again, ONLY the FIRST time I engaged Mastertempo, still a little stutter :-(

Luckily, rest of the night went by flawless.

Now, this is not a big deal, if I can make a habit of it that I engage all the "special" features in the beginning of every time I open up Rekordbox, I can live with that. But I'm guessing that this stutter is related to the stutter I sometimes have during the peak of my set... And that is more of a problem for me...

Now increased the buffer to 1024, will try a few times with my home set-up this week

@ Tom

I'm pretty satisfied with Rekordbox, never had a crash nor a freeze. Only this occasional audio-stutter is worrying me... :-(

hi i was getting the same 1-2 sec audio stutter on my DDJ-RZ only on start up turning on or pressing any buttons on the RZ

PLEASE TRY THIS

Goto Audio MIDI setup in the Utilities and turn off inputs/outputs to rekordbox Aggregate Device

and make sure your format is set to 2 ch 24 bit integer 44.1 KHz on your mac built in output as your Device

also check in the MIDI studio (show midi studio) that there is not two of the same Device in the set up

@hugsta > Did that actually fix it for you? Typically those virtual aggregate devices, if not in use by any application, would not affect the performance.

@Tom > The audio buffer is not OS-dependent, it could be you need to increase your audio buffer as well, and ensure you don't have any other background tasks / processes / applications taking system resources from rekordbox.

@Kristof > Let us know how it goes @ 1024 samples.

yes it stopped

DDJ-RZ is a MIDI device with the some port address as the IAC Driver ? so turning off rekordbox Aggregate Device input/outputs stopped any traffic on the Midi ports

Interesting, I don't typically see the IAC Driver active. Maybe I've just disabled it in past? lol
