Replicate CD wallets in Rekordbox/XDJ-RX2

Hi,

i am moving from playing on CDs to playing on n XDJ-RX2.

up till now I have my CDs stored in a number of different wallets with different 'flaviours' of music in.  Each CD is labelled with the artist and album name.

i am trying to replicate this through rekordbox but not having any luck...

when I use playlists  (even within a folder structure) you just get a whole list of the track names (not the artist or the album)

otherwise, browsing by artist or album I have to scroll through the entire list of artists and albums on the USB stick.

Is there a way of grouping albums at all?

thanks.

Have you set the right column on the USB drive to Album? It should then show up next to the track name on the XDJ.

You can also do this temporarily on the XDJ by pressing Menu > Sort > Album.

OK - this will show me the album or artist name, but is there a way to group albums (as in going to a particular CD wallet or a crate of vinyl) so that I don't just get all the albums in my collection, or all the songs on a playlist (even if they have the artist/album tagged alongside the track name)?

If I understand correctly, you want to jump into a list with album names (which can be from different artists), and from there jump into an album to see all tracks?

Unfortunately Rekordbox only supports playlists with tracks. It's possible to create playlist folders with a playlist for each album, but that would be tedious to do manually. It may be possible with Rekordbuddy, but if not then I don't think a program exists to do that.

P.S. My mind has just been blown. I've never understood the difference between crates and playlists, but I've always found it difficult to find tracks in long playlists. It seems that crates / wallets are a great way to help with that.

Yep - that is pretty much it.  Can I recommend for future consideration - it seems to be a natural way of replicating the record box or CD wallet way of filing things.  The basic need is to be able to group albums together so that you don't need to browse through the entire list.

(N.B. both my mate down the pub and a number of other much older posts here seem to want the same thing).

I am currently thinking of sending my XDJ back under my 14 day cooling down period because it seems pretty much unusable as it is.

fully understand your request, please see https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115018095303-Reasons-to-think-i-leave-from-rekordbox-?page=1#community_comment_360000392646

as an automaric workaround: this window script is able to create one playlist per folder in itunes. Then its trivial to import to RB.

for Mac I think I saw the exact same thing somewhere here: https://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts01.php

-----

When new files or folders are added / moved / renamed / deleted I either repeat the whole process, including reanalysing everything again; OR I mass relocate everything in Traktor using AUDIO_ID, and currently trying to use rekorduddy/DJCU to re-import everything to rekordbox (this has its own problems as well)
