Offbeat or Laggy hotcues during mixes.

I’m new to the Rekordbox, and I’m facing problem I never had with Traktor. Pressing Rekordbox hotcues is not reliable with sync, and a big gamble during a mix. Traktor’s quantize feature meant that even if you were slightly off-time when you pressed a hotcue during a mix, it would still snap to the beat and keep perfect sync.

So, during a long Traktor crossfade mix, I could easily jump to an emptier section of the outgoing song while the incoming song was building up.  When I do this in Rekordbox, I’m often getting trainwrecks, flams and shuffles.  Pre-mix cueing of songs often needs a few attempts to get it right.  I often have to nudge the track with the jogs like I did in the vinyl days.  Or be quite careful when I press the key.

I thought it might be related to a laggy laptop, but when I toggle the deck’s quantize mode (pressing the red Q key) the cue playback is instant.

I’ve also noticed that when I press the hotcue poorly, the sync button on the DDJ-SR will flash, and pressing it again will make it snap into place (if it isn’t too far off-sync).  I don’t think I should have to press two buttons.

Sometimes there’s a long lag that maintains sync, but makes the phrase sound funny.  This seems to be related to the Quantize Beat Value preference settings, but I can’t really tell.  That preference seems to control snapping values when setting cues.

I hope this can be fixed with my settings, and is some sort of teething problem as I switch systems. I like Rekordbox a lot so far.

My setup: A Pioneer DDJ-SR with MacBook Air.  Rekordbox v.4.5.0 OSX High Sierra 10.13.4.

Still practicing with this (upcoming gig tomorrow) and its just awful.  If I'm not extremely careful when I press the hot cue, it's trainwreck city.  This is way beyond a little sloppiness in my timing.

I tried setting the Quantize beat value in the preferences to 1, but it only fixes some problems.  Also rebooted the laptop so it was the only app using memory.

This appears to be related to a bug/feature discussed on this thread:
https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/205862126-Quantizing-loops-but-not-hot-cues

The behavior they're describing appears to be what I'm dealing with.  This issue was passed on to the engineers two years ago. Its seems it was a low-priority.

Any updates on this issue?  Or workarounds? It's a real deal-breaker for me.

Sorry if I rant, but If I can't trust the sync button on my DJ software, it makes the whole point of Digital DJing (and over 500 fully marked and gridded tracks) pointless.

I used to mix on vinyl, so I can mix manually.  But why should I?  (In fact, I'm selling my 30yr old SL1200s today!) I like hopping around my songs creatively instead of constantly riding the pitch wheel.  Traktor gave me this freedom, but had other problems.

But hopefully I'm wrong about something in the software.  Rant out.
