Sorry about that -- not all USB drives are created equal!

Please try a different make / model USB drive and see if the problem persists. If it does, the issue could be with your XDJ, otherwise it could simply be that your USB drive is either faulty or that particular chipset is problematic in combination with the RX2.

I would like to report a similar issue.

I have used a variety of different flash drives over the past 6 months or so. Initially when I purchased the XDJ-RX2, all of my usb drives (3 of them), which were formatted under Mac OS X Extended were working just fine. They were 2 x 128GB and 1 x 64GB Patriot Supersonic Rage. It's important to note that with all of these drives, I never had issues (to this day) when playing at the club at CDJ-2000, CDJ-2000NXS, and CDJ-2000NXS2.

After a while, I started having problems with one of the drives and then another one. I formatted one of them under FAT32 and the problem seems to have been fixed, but FAT32 is extremely slow (takes 10 times+ longer than under OS X) when copying tracks to the USB stick, so I'd like to avoid that.

Most of my old playlists, however, reside on one of the OS X formatted drives and that seems to never work - the XDJ-RX2 just says there is no Rekordbox database. Then I go to the club and the USB stick works just fine and I play with it for 6+ hours.

I started doubting the integrity of the flash drives, so I purchased new ones. Brand new USB 3.0 128GB Samsung drives. I copied a ton of playlists on them and was eager to start using them with my XDJ-RX2. Alas, when I plugged them in, I kept getting the message - "No Rekordbox Database Found" and the drive appears empty on the XDJ-RX2, but again, it plays fine on CDJ's.

So...what exactly is causing this issue? The XDJ-RX2 costs a lot of money and is supposed to replicate the "club experience" of the NXS2 series. The whole idea of having such a piece of equipment at home is to be able to use it without a PC and use your flash drives, so you can practice for the club. Right now, all it's doing is giving me headache, because I've spent a lot of money upgrading flash drives, a lot of time re-organizing and copying playlists, and then I am unable to use them on the RX2.

I need a fix for this because I am almost at the point of selling this unit, because of this. I REFUSE TO FORMAT MY DRIVES UNDER FAT32, as they are extremely slow this way and copying a 10GB playlist literally takes half a day and locks up my Mac. I REFUSE TO BUY NEW FLASH DRIVES as well, because all of the ones I have (5 in total) work fine in a club setting.

PIONEER - what is the problem and how can I address it?

Let's face it. Pioneer, you keep trying to blame the problem on the USB stick or user error when, in fact, the XDJ is a piece of garbage.

So everyone, here's the solution. You have to buy USB 2.0 drives. Slow AF, but it's the only sure fire way beyond bending over backwards to try and make your USB 3.0 drives work.

So... I've been a loyal Pioneer devotee since 2000 when I bought my first DJ rig. I have the 2000s now, thank god, but a lot of the newer, baby DJs buy the XDJ thinking it's the newest, best thing.

I've now spun on the XDJs 7-8 times, all in gig settings, and never ONCE has it been a good experience. In fact, I've had to forgo my sets a couple of times since the gear won't read my USB 3.0 drives. THAT SUCKS.

The XDJ interface is terrible, the features awful, and the fact that a USB 3.0 drive won't work in them is ludicrous. Who spins with USB 2.0 anymore? They're SLOW SLOW SLOW.

The issue is your gear, not the USB drive or user error.  Just take a look around, Pioneer. Don't you see all the complaints about the errors on the XDJs when using a USB 3.0 drive? They're everywhere! Instead of shirking responsibility, why not just make this piece of gear work? And at the speed that us DJs desperately need.

I used to love you guys, but if this is the kind of quality that we should look forward to from here on out, I may have to finally jump ship to another manufacturer. I don't want to buy anything new from you guys because, who knows, will future rigs be just as crummy? My trust in Pioneer's reputation is broken. :-(

@Shannon > USB3 drives do indeed work in all of our XDJ units, but again, not all drives are created equal and there is a chance the drive's chip manager is not compatible with the XDJ USB host chipset and thus does not work as expected. A perfect example of this is the Corsair Survivor series -- we know they have trouble being read by the player regardless.

Oh, and don't fret that the XDJ itself only has a USB2 port - it doesn't need anywhere NEAR the maximum throughput of the USB2 protocol (40MB/s), as it can only read 2 files at a time, and even if we assumed they're the maximum quality supported by the unit (an uncompressed 24bit/48kHz stereo file), that's still only 4.5MB/s.
