Edit file information permanently

Is there a way to permanently edit the artist/title information of a file from within rekordbox? So far it only makes the changes within rekordbox and not to the actual file. If this isnt possible could someone let me know how I edit this information using a macbook pro?

Many thanks

Mark Harrison

No from within Rekordbox the only ID3 tag that can be written to the file/song is the Key.

You'll have to use a program like iTunes or kid3 to edit tags from outside of rekordbox. Once you've done that you have to reload the tracks for them to update the information.

It's a bit annoying that there is no option for use decide if we want to write to the file or just the database.

It depends on what file format you're using. A WAV file cannot store tag information so that is stored locally for each program. But for example AIFF file tags, including artist and name, can be edited and if you update the file information in for example iTunes you will see the changes. But be careful, if you manage your iTunes library automatically that will move the file and you will have to relocate it in Rekordbox.

I am new to RekordBox and started building my Collection. Many of my files are missing track information or have dates that don't reflect the actual release date(collection albums). I am setting up Playlists using date ranges and want this to be accurate. I am looking into programs like MusicTag that updates the information from online databases. The album art is nice to have but i removed it from my RB track listing.

This topic suggests that RekordBox only loads this information when track is first imported. Subsequent updates to music files are not reflected in the database and there is no option to update the information. The only option is to remove the track and import again. Fortunately, I am not far into this process and starting over on the first 600 songs would not be too much work. I will just have to make sure the information is up to date before RB import.

Sounds like this could be a feature request on future releases.

If you update tags with another application, simply right click on the track and choose "reload tag" in Rekordbox.

Thanks for the help. I tried it once before and did not seem to work. It is working fine and and I am getting information updated. I have a new respect of what DJs go thru to prepare a gig.
