XDJ-1000MK2 outputs distorted sound

Hi there,

I need help—both of my units output distorted sound whenever I connect my Rekordbox-exported flash drive.

Things I tried to fix or isolate the issue:

  • Updated their firmware to v1.41 (the most recent version), but that didn’t help.
  • Used the same flash drive with another pair of XDJ-700 and the sound was just fine.
  • Changed mixers and RCA cables, but the issue persisted.
  • The music files on the flash drive don’t clip. The sound gets distorted when playing from other sources, too.

I’d rather not send my players for warranty repair, but I feel powerless. Please help.

Dom

you haven't got the mixer inputs switched to "phono" have you? They need to be set to "Line". Forgive me if this is a stupid suggestion.

Both mixers I tested this issue with were correctly set to Line.

If you export an audio file to the drive NOT through rekordbox, and play it back, does it distort in the same manner?

Yes, this is something I also tried when I was testing the issue on a different mixer.

Today I spoke with local Pioneer service rep on the phone. They think a software reset should do the trick. Unfortunately, customers can’t perform software resets on their own, so I have to send in my units.

If I get any specifics, I’ll report back.

I ended up sending them back for a warranty repair, which ultimately resolved the issue.

Hi Dom, do you know exactly what they did to repair the deck? I am having a very similar, if not the same issue with one of my XDJ700s, it is currently at an authorised repair centre for out of warranty repair but they are struggling to pinpoint the issue. Thanks
