Low quality sound with DDJ-400 on my studio monitors

Hey all,

I'm new to Djing and purchased a DDJ-400. Love the unit so far its been perfect for a beginner!

I have some bookshelf speakers (Edifier S1000DB to be exact) which I normally use at home. At home they are connected to my Samsung TV via optic cable and then when I want to hear music I normally play through the Soundcloud/Spotify app via my Google Chromecast and that plays the music at a very high, crisp, clean quality sound.

Important to note that the speakers also have Bluetooth capabilities and when I use that feature the sound quality is significantly less.

When I connected my DDJ-400 to the Speakers via a 20ft RCA to RCA cable I can tell that the sound quality isn't as great as what I'm getting from the TV with optic cable.

So my question is how can I get that crisp, high quality sound that i'm getting with the optic cable from the TV from the DDJ-400?

Or is the issue maybe that my RCA to RCA is 20ft and thats too long?

Would appreciate some help! Would be a real shame if I couldn't get the best out of my speakers using the DDJ-400.

Well, there are a few points where things might be affecting the audio...

- The 20' cable shouldn't be too much of an issue, typically it's suggested to keep unbalanced (and unshielded) cable lengths to a minimum as they can pick up interference, or it's possibly adding too much impedance to the signal making it more difficult for the speakers.

- The audio quality of your music files themselves could be to blame; what is the file encoding type / bit depth / sample rate?

- The D/A converter of your speakers may be a higher quality than that of the DDJ-400, resulting in a difference in quality output.
