Rekordbox 5.4.1 - creating double files in directories on external ssd

This could actually be a bug report, i lost a whole day today troubleshooting this, hope it helps someone....

I use an external SSD (Sandisk Extreme SSD 250 - new model) and i use it for other programs and equipment, other than pioneer, so my music is sorted in folders, which i then drag and drop in rekordbox to create playlists. It works fine and on my thumb drives too, for years now. The problem occurred after 5.4.1 update, when i dragged a folder into rekordbox to create a playlist, rekordbox createda a playlist and everything worked fine, the music was usable, but in the folder it created another file, a copy, or a clone of the original, like this - original: (example)

Danny Cruz - Life Saver (Original Mix) [Onako Records].mp3

and the created, cloned, file (example)

Danny Cruz - Life Saver (Original Mix) [Onako Records].mp3Danny Cruz - Life Saver (Original Mix) [Onako Records]

- the created file was used by rekordbox, the original was not touched, hence it doubled my collection size, and this was the same if i imported only one file, or a whole folder, in collection or in playlist, always the same, a clone of original was made and used. And this problem was ONLY on external ssd, the thumb drives worked OK, no problems (did not double the files).

The SOLUTION for me was to install 5.4.0. which works fine, no problems with ssd at all - so i call it a compatibility problem, or something, hope pioneer fixes it, and i hope this helps someone ;)

Our engineers have identified the export issue in 5.4.1 causing this to happen and it will be fixed in the next update.

In the meantime, did you know you can install multiple versions of rekordbox simultaneously? On Windows, if it asks if you want to remove the previous version (during the update / install process), say no. On Mac, simply rename the rekordbox app to include the version number and the next one will install as "rekordbox" beside it.

Hi there,

Exactly the same thing happened to me!  Glad I not going crazy, it was most annoying.  Thanks for the tip, I rolled back to to version 5.4.1 and seems to be working fine.

Cheers,

Andy

Hi, I had the exact same problem yesterday, although mine happened when I tried to export back to my HDD (the same one that my main database is on) to use it with my XDJ-RX2. I wrote a post in the XDJ forum but have had no response (see here https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360031016171-exporting-to-hdd-to-use-with-xdj-rx2)

This might be a dumb question, but how do I roll back to 5.4.0? I have a mobile gig on Friday and need to export about 2000 80s songs into a playlist. I really don’t want to have to delete 2000 duplicates afterwards.

Thanks for any advice

Thanks for this. I’ve got two gigs at the weekend, so I’ll stay on 5.4.0 until after those but I’ll upgrade to 5.4.2 on Sunday
