CDJ 2000s and a sound tech who won't budge

Hi,

I'm playing a long set at a wedding in a couple weeks and the sound engineer is being hilariously hostile and refusing to accommodate my request of using my own XDJ-1000 mk2s instead of his CDJ2000s. My players are PAT tested from teh last gig I played with them in September, so there's no reason to object in my opinion.

My chief concern is that virtually all of my music is in flac and alac. The thought of converting it all isn't just annoying, I'm not sure it's possible in the time I have. I'm super busy right up until the day, so if I can't use my players I might have to cancel the gig and let down the couple. Is there a quick and painless way of converting my library and maintaining cues and grid adjustments etc?

I'm also cautious of the 2000s having never used them. I heard they don't even display the whole waveform if you're playing off USBs?

I took a look at some old reviews and images online and from what I can see I'm also worried about a couple other things that I don't quite rely on, but regularly use:

Do they have a phase metre?

Can you adjust the quantise settings?

I use a lot of loops so the quantise function makes things easier. I know I can set all my loops up before hand and use the memory points as a workaround, but again, it comes down to time.

I can live without a phase metre but I do like how it saves you that fraction of a second by showing which way you need to nudge when you hear that a track is starting to slide.

I'm going to dig my heels in with the guy, hopefully him saying 'just because' enough times will make him realise he's completely unreasonable and childish. But if he doesn't I'm a little concerned that getting used to a significantly different workflow on the night is going to go belly-up.

I assume it is the first gen of CDJ 2000 we're talking about. Are you going to use master tempo? Then forget the 2000's, it was unusable, then got patched but still, on certain songs it's still very bad. If sound quality is a big concern, your gear is better.

Great, more concerns! Yes I will be using master tempo, quite a lot actually. Sound quality is a big concern, hence why my library is mostly flac and alac.

Really hope this guy’s stops being awkward

Do remember that first gen CDJ 2000's (and also NXS1) doesn't NOT support FLAC or ALAC. So make sure you re-code all your tracks to AIFF if you're forced to play on the units. The XDJ's are built on the design of the 2000's so a lot will be familiar but you will probably be thrown off guard by the odd looping system, lack of self loading hot cues, no hot loops, no auto loading cue points etc. etc. Good luck!
