Possible to copy music folder to Rekordbox as is?

Is it possible to either import or copy over my music folder so that it looks identical in Rekordbox as it does in my music folder? Meaning, if in my music folder I have a folder named Slow Songs and within that folder I have several other folders with folders inside of them, if I want each and every single folder to show up in the Rekordbox area on the left side of the screen, do I have to add them manually? I imported my music folder and thought it would do just that, but instead all of my music is found under "Collection", but no folders anywhere that I can see.

Now the only way I can get this done is to create a new folder named Slow Songs, then create an Etta James folder myself, then I can add all of her albums in that folder, as LONG as there aren't any other folders within her albums. If there are more folders, they won't show as folders, but the files within said folders will still be there. And if I just drag the Slow Songs folder over, it'll be added as a playlist, instead of a folder and though that doesn't prevent me from seeing all of the files, it does however prevents me from seeing the names of each folder within that playlist (which, again, should have been a folder).

So is there a quicker way to go about doing this? Or must it all be done manually, the way I mentioned above?

Yeah, you can do just that, then browse within the EXPLORER (on the left; if it's not visible, go to the Preferences > View and find the check-box for EXPLORER), they won't be shown in a folder-based hierarchy within the collection or playlists by virtue of importing them to the collection.

My recommendation would just be to drag the entire music parent folder into the collection to import it, and learn to start using some of the more powerful features of rekordbox (such as MyTag) to lean away from the old folder hierarchy.

Thanks for your help.

Just a few things I wanted to ask and confirm.

1) So unless I misunderstood what you're saying, using the Explorer option (or manually setting it up the way I have been doing it) is the only way to achieve the whole folder-based hierarchy, correct?

2) Couple issues I'm having with the Explorer option. First thing is that there are other folders that are in the same area where my Music Folder is located. In Playlists, it's literally just the things I need, which is a much more cleaner look overall and it's quicker to get to my folders as well. So for now, I highly prefer if everything was within playlists. Especially since I'm not familiar with the MyTag feature for now, so I'll have to ease my way into that over time.

Second issue I seem to be having is that if I close out of the Explorer, it goes right back to the start and I have to scroll through several areas of my Mac to finally get to my actual music folder, so though not a major headache, still a few more steps than Playlist.

Lastly, what's the "shortcut" option about? I clicked it but can't seem to find the shortcut.

3) Curious: Can we analyze the folders in Explorer?

1) Yes; unless you go through the painstaking process of rebuilding all of your folders as nested playlists, the easiest way for you to accomplish what you're asking is to browse through the Explorer.

2) MyTag is really more of an added feature to help you find the tracks you're looking for by way of "filters." There are other options, including major filtering on things like genre, BPM, etc., but keyword searching can also help. You should also check out the related tracks functions - they're like intelligent playlists, but WAAY more intelligent as they can pull up songs related to the currently playing / selected song (matching based on criteria you select), and you can even manually match songs outside of the core criteria.

Shortcuts are hidden over on the left - to the left of the main tree; you may see a light-grey section hiding there. I personally never use it, but I know a lot of people who do.

3) No, but as noted above, if you just import the entire music folder, all of the content within will be added to your collection and analysed. You can repeat this process any time you add new music anywhere within that folder and it will only add the new music.

Hi Pulse, Iwant to stick an extra question on to this topic:

I've imported my music files from my connected external SSD in to Rekordbox. Just drag-and-drop from Finder (OSX Explorer). This works fine. I've got about 5 main maps HOUSE/TECHNO/DEEPHOUSE etc. both identical on the SSD aswell as in my Rekordbox libary.

When I collect new music tracks on my external SSD, and I add them in a certain exisiting folder like HOUSE, how can I get those new files to be automaticly synchronised within the same/identical HOUSE folder of my Rekordbox libary?

Up till now I do this manually, and I'm convinced that Rekordbox has a better option. Feel free to give a link to a certain tutorial.

Thanks from me, as well, Pulse. Would be curious to know the answer for Theo's question, too. I'm assuming you have to do that manually (drag and drop new files?), but hoping that there's an "easier" option, perhaps, as Theo says, to automatically sync them somehow.

Hi Pulse,

Would there be a chance that you give a reaction on my question about synchronising file maps?

There's no function to "automatically monitor a folder and add any new music," the closest you get is by importing the folder again and it will import the new songs.

Keep in mind that if you're sorting things by folders and duplicating that into playlists, you could just drag-drop that folder into that playlist. Yes, you'd have to do it once per folder / playlist pair, but at least it makes the process simple. The alternative is to not make playlists, but to then browse by Explorer, as any songs added will show up in the collection, but you can still navigate your "structure" through the explorer.
