Gain issues with xdj-rx2

Hi

I come from the world of vinyl and Serato. I'm used to gain matching with records and Serato (tho in Serato you can also boost in software of course), and I've been djing for over 10 years. Since I've had the xdj-rx2 I've really struggled with gain matching, it doesn't seem to make any sense. Two tracks can be right at the limit (and even redlining) yet be totally different levels. I'll often go to mix into another track that is right on the cusp of redlining and find that it is WAY more quiet than another. I've never had this problem before, only with the xdj-rx and rekordbox, in fact playing the two mp3s in serato doesn't give me these volume differences. Also, sometimes it feels like the levels don't match at all with the track, and it will say it's redlining when there's no audible distortion at all.

Does this make sense? It's often not enjoyable having a mix tbh

And another knock on effect is that I'll often have to adjust the master volume constantly, because the track is as high as it can go without redlining, but because the track is actually really quiet, the master levels drop. Then turn it back down again when another track is played at the 'same' level

Which firmware do you have installed on the RX2?

Unless it's an issue with the hardware, I can't say I've encountered your issue before, either in using the unit myself or in reports from other users here on the forums.

Are you having this problem with rekordbox in performance mode or when playing back music from a USB drive with the RX2 in stand-alone mode?
