Itunes XML File and Rekordbox Issue

I have my iTunes Library on a workstation and I have assigned it a network path as  "//Desktop/itunes" where in the "iTunes Library.xml" is within the sub-folder "itunes."

In Rekordbox, I went to the Database option and inserted the library file under the option "iTunes Library File". So this is what is looks like "//Desktop/itunes/iTunes Library.xml". The library loads but there is an yellow exclamation mark on each song and I get the error "Load error. The file is not in a supported format".

If I connect a hard drive and do exactly as above it works. Is there an issue with Rekordbox not able to work over the network.

Instead of using a network path, please mount that location as a local drive or symlink.

I tried to mount the network path as a local drive and it is still giving me an error. I even tried to keep the same drive name as what it is in the workstation that has the iTunes library. No luck.

Using XML's (either Rekordbox XML or iTunes XML) uses the filepath as stored in the XML. The actual storage location of the XML is not important, if Rekordbox can read it you're good. However the filepaths of the tracks stored in the XML is a different story. These filepaths are absolute and not relative.

so if a track's filepath in iTunes is:

/Volumes/USB Drive/MusicTracks virgin/MyTrack.mp3

The network share when mounted should have the exact same name ('USB Drive")

Thanks for your reply MixMasterG. So this is currently my network path for my iTunes Library,

\\Spawn-ascor\spawndj, where "Spawn-Ascor" is the workstation, "SpawnDJ" is the folder, the iTunes Library file is within the "SpawnDJ" folder.

How do I go about adding this onto RekordBox so that to the access the songs?

Edit the filepath in the XML file so it reflects the correct volume path.

An iTunes XML is static, not actively maintained, it's only written when you quit iTunes.

If you change something in your iTunes collection you'll need to edit the filepath in the XML again.

The info in this tutorials should get going. It's about Traktor to Rekordbox windows conversion but the technique you require is identical.

the white paper I refer to in the tutorial can be handy as well
