I switched from serato when I got the DDJ1000 and haven't looked back. I've run it on older machines with no issues. Download the trial and give it a shot on your older Mac.
I have been using Serato DJ for years and Itch before that but I am interested in the DDJ-800, which means I would have to switch to RB.
I am using an older (2010) Mac Book Pro with an i5 processor but with the past few Serato updates I have had some glitches. My concern is, will I have any issues using Rekordbox on a slightly older Mac Book Pro because I can't afford any down time. PLEASE HELP and share your experiences... To switch or not to switch?
Thank you,
Paul

If you want to keep your Serato DJ MetaData (cues/loops etc) you can use the DJ Conversion Utility to convert to Rekordbox.
Goto https://www.ATGR.nl select Serato as your current software and Rekordbox as target and the site will show you all relevant information including which apps you need and the YouTube tutorials about what to do.
I'll vouch for the DJCU tool linked by @MixMasterG; it's fantastic and provides an easy way to get all your collection from Serato into rekordbox.
I have a very low end Windows laptop. Still runs great with RB.
Used it both with a DDJ-400 and now with a DDJ-800
