Rekordbox collection in an external hd/ssd usable both by the rekordbox app and cdj/xdj

That's great news for me! I thought this was not possible. 

I'm looking at Rekordbox right now and I'm a bit confused. How do I 'export' everything? Is it the "export collection in xml format" option in the file menu? And do I need to do this everytime I update my collection/playlists?

This is how my settings look like right now btw.

The external hdd is named "MUSIC". Pioneer folder is a direct subfolder of the hdd. And there's another direct subfolder called "MUSIC" which includes all the music files. 

When the hdd is connected to laptop, rekordbox app shows the collection and plays songs as expected. But when I connect the hdd to the xdj700, I don't see the songs or the playlists.

I want to do the same thing. A shame @pioneer never gave a reply again.

With 'export' to the drive I assume that you mean to use the sync manager.

I tried doing this and it DOES create duplicates since it just adds a Contents folder on my SSD and copies the files there. 

This is not what I want.

Like the OP, I want to use my 1TB external SSD for storing all my music and my rekordbox library to be used with CDJ's in the club/radio or wherever.

Could you please provide a detailed description how to go about this method without it creating duplicate files.

If the music is already located on the external drive when it's imported to rekordbox, exporting to that drive does not create duplicates.

thanks for the fast reply! Hmmm ok, well I started on a different drive. Then moved over my database/collection to another drive, along with the sourcefiles. Without changing the file structure, other than the external drive having a different name. Might this be the reason that it's creating duplicates? And what would now be the best way for me to proceed? I don't want to lose the playlists I created and I really need it to not create duplicates

So it seems I got it working..

By creating a new database and importing all the music all over again. This is somewhat of an unwanted workaround. Because this now means I've lost all my previously created playlists (I still have this database on another external drive). But for me it's more about future proofing.

Because now I have an 1tb SSD which is filled about 65%. Say I want to upgrade to a bigger SSD. I would have to go through the same process again of losing all my previously made playlists. Is there another way to go about this? Thanks!

You could clone the drive or copy the contents, provided you copy the hidden data as well, it would be just fine. Make sure the drive name / letter is the same and there would be no other issues.

Oh that's a great idea. Didn't know there were hidden files. Trying this method out now and will let you know if it worked.

Yeah, the .PIONEER folder is often hidden - if on a Mac, press Command + Shift + . (dot) to toggle them. In Windows, it's in the Explorer preferences.

The problem with duplicates still persists...

So I created a new library and imported a folder as a playlist.

I organize per genre which you can consider its 'main folder'. In the genre folder I also have folders of albums, which sometimes also contain folders with CD1/CD2. 

The problem is that when I 'export' the playlist with sync manager to the same drive. It creates duplicates for files which are in folders within the 'main folder', but not for the ones that exist as separate tracks in the main folder.

Why is this? Because this would mean I would have to give up my album folders, and that's not really something I'm willing to do.
