Cue spit headphone question

Hi

I am used to a DJM with headphone cue mono/split. Cue plays in left year and live track in the right ear.

I would like to purchase an XDJ XZ which does not have cue mono/split. Same configuration as XDJ RX/RX2.

So my question is: when cueing with the headphone mix knob in the middle, will I be hearing the cue track in the left ear and the live track in my right ear, or will I be hearing both tracks in stereo overlapping each other in both ears?

If that's so how will I be able to follow the echo left-right when beat matching?

Some help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

It would be stereo-overlap.

You'd get used to it - I had previously used only split-cue and absolutely loved it, but then moved to mixers where that wasn't an option and simply adapted to it. The alternative is to take one ear off and listen to only the cue in the headphones, the master would be from what's playing out over the speakers / booth monitors.

Just to correct (the usual terrible pioneer support) there is a mono/split on the XZ... it's just on the screen settings and no cue button for it.

Thanks for the answer. Interesting. How easy to use is that? Not sure I understand what you mean of it not having a cue button? If my incoming channel is cued and the cue split enabled, that should work, no?

Cheers

When you click on the settings... mixer options, there is a mono split / stereo settings for you to choose from. If you select mono split, then the master sound will go to the right ear pad of the headphones and the cued channel to the left, it's really good and works like any other mixer... the only issue is that there is no button/switch to move back to stereo which is what I normally (and most DJs) do after cueing the track to mix it and listen to the mix on both ears... you simply can't... your only option at that stage is the hear the mix on your right ears only which is master.

Eg... these days with the lockdown, I do some live mixes on social media etc, I normally do it at night when the wife and kids are asleep, I only use headphones which I'm confortable with but this MONO Split the way it is designed is simply redundant for me.

I hope this makes sense.

@artworked > I understand, however there is no shortcut or other control to toggle this function. It's on the request list for a keyboard shortcut at the very least.

Oh, and for the reference, the original post was made in November before I'd had any hands-on or time to review the manual where the mono/stereo split is detailed. So thanks for the comment about how "terrible" we are, 7 months later.
