[macOS Catalina] Rekordbox 5.8.0 fails to use PC MASTER output with Bluetooth sound speaker

OS: macOS Catalina 10.15.1 (19B88)

Rekordbox: 5.8.0 rev.17328-16157-16139

Steps to reproduce

  1. Connect JBL-3 sound speaker via Bluetooth to the laptop
  2. Set JBL-3 as a system output (System Preferences -> Sound -> Click on connected JBL-3 sound speaker)
  3. Start Rekordbox 5.8.0
  4. Connect DDJ-400 via USB
  5. Go to Preferences -> Audio -> Select DDJ-400 as audio output -> Set PC-Master Output checkbox.

Actual behaviour: Rekordbox deselects PC Master Output checkbox. If I start playing a track Rekorbox plays it via laptop embedded sound speaker.

Expected behaviour: Rekordbox plays sound via JBL-3 connected via Bluetooth to the laptop.

Notes: Rekordbox 5.8.0 for Windows does not have this problem.

That could be entirely due to how the macOS handles audio to a BT device; we can't guarantee its performance with rekordbox, sorry.

Hello people. I totally disagree with the official answer from Pioneer DJ, since Virtual DJ works fine with Outputting from Controller together with Bluetooth connected, so it is not a matter of how macOS handles audio to a BT device... This functionality is essencial for some situations when DJs must handle with limitations where they need play, I think Pioneer should take this issue carefully in order get us happier using rekordbox :), since I am not intended to move to Virtual DJ in a party, wherever it happens.

It seems a software problem (rekordbox). When bluetooth is not connected and you have only the options Built IN and DDJ XXX, so there are only TWO options in the Dropdown list and, when you press the checkbox, the software works fine and Rekordbox play in the DDJ output and in Mac speakers together. But when you connect in a bluetooth mode, now it appears FOUR options in the dropdown list (Aggregate-Audio... / Built-in.. / DDJ XXX / Bluetooth device)... then when you press the checkbox (output audio from...) the software gets an error appearing 'No audio selected` in the dropdown list, returning to DDJ XXX.. so it seems to be a bug where the software developer, when there are more the TWO options in the Dropdown list, they should open a list enabling the person to select what will be the audio to be Output... Please Pioneer, check this situation with your developers :)

I just tested this a number of ways and was able to get it to work, but only using 3rd party software (Loopback). I'm sure there's another way, but the OS doesn't like passing the audio to the BT speaker as a system output and rekordbox tries hard to make it happen but then it just keeps falling back. No combination of aggregate devices or multi-out audio devices would allow it to function.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - the #1 reason not to use BT audio out: latency. There is a delay between the actions on the controller / software and the resulting output on the BT speaker(s). Until we have true low/zero latency output for these devices, it's not worth using for DJ application. Sorry guys!
