XDJ RX2 - How to assign sampler tracks to performance pads???

Is there a way to assign the sampler banks to the performance pads with Rekordbox open? And if so, please, please tell me how to do it.

For example, Rekordbox can be configured for 4 or 8 samples per side. Let's say I am using 8. Can the performance pads on the RX2 be configured to trigger then 8 samples?

Is it possible to use the top 4 pads for samples and the bottom 4 for effects?

Thank you.

@Marcus > Yes, per the hardware diagram, pressing SHIFT+BEAT JUMP will put the RX2 into the SAMPLER mode for the pads, and from there you're using the 8 pads for the 8 samplers on that deck.

If you want to customize the pads to perform different (combined) functions, you'd have to edit the MIDI mapping yourself.

@Pulse -

Thank you. I saw on the hardware diagram that the pads could be set to sampler but I didn't see how to set them to that mode. Please forgive my ignorance. I started with vinyl and have been away for a few years.

I still don't see on the diagram the SHIFT+BEAT JUMP sets the sampler mode? Am I missing it? Any help here is much appreciated.

I have another question. I understand that the sampler mode is unavailable in stand alone mode which makes perfect sense to. And in another thread I read where an Akai sampler was recommended through the aux input.

Would the DJS1000 work the same way? I realize it wouldn't be synced in anyway to the rx2 but could it be used like this?

And lastly, if the DJS1000 is not appropriate in such an application, what is my best option for a sampler that can be used in stand alone?

Thank you

Correct; there is no sampler in stand-alone, but you could use external hardware, whether it's an Akai or DJS-1000. The only caveat is that the RX2 does not link with other players for any kind of sync of the beatgrid, so even if you used a DJS-1000, you'd have to manually sync the sources.

The light bulb is finally all the way screwed in. Much thanks.

In your opinion, would the DJS1000 be overkill in this application? I get that it wouldn't be synced but it does have a BPM setting, so it's just a matter of triggering it correctly. Right?

What I am trying to do here is really play around and create something original. I don't play clubs any more. The reason I am getting back into this is so I can record pro mixes. But I want to be able to add, if you will, my own unique flavor however I am able to choose. This is a big learning process for me.

One of the things I want to do is create loops that I can use as a bridge from one track to another and then manually add samples and effects as it's playing. I might want to do this if I am going to a different key that doesn't mix well with the previous track. If I use loops from the tracks themselves, I run into the key mismatch issue. Using an unrelated loop will allow me to reset and gently bring in the next track inoffensively.

I might crazy. This is just something I thought of doing and the DJS1000 looks like it would be perfect for that application and a thousand others I haven't considered.

It really depends what you want to do with it. I knew a guy who had four CDJ-2000's and a DJM-900NXS but never left his bedroom; he did it for the love of DJing.

The DJS-1000 could certainly do what you're looking to do, and it would do it well, but in combination with the RX2, it's not the optimal setup as it can't be connected in a send/return or send/aux style setup -- nor can it link the beat grid for an easy and accurate beat sync.

My suggestion would be to play around with some samplers and see if they'll do what you want before laying out the cash.
