Deck Order

Hi All, I have an issue with the order of the decks in RB Performance, which has bugged me for a long time. Since nobody else seems to have an issue with that, there must be a way to resolve this. Most setups I play on have a Djm900nxs2 with one player on either side, ie a 2 deck setup. Channels on the mixer are 2 and 3 for the left and right player, respectively. Player numbers (in Menu) are also 2 and 3 as channel and player numbers need to be equal for the FX Quantize function to work on the Djm900. When I take over from someone playing with USB stick and connect RB Performance via USB cable to the DJM, I want to play in 2-deck layout. However, this is not possible as the deck order is 1-2-3-4, so I need to select 4-deck layout where deck 2 is on the top right and deck 3 on the bottom left. So my right deck shows on the left, my left on the right. This is so unintuitive and difficult to handle for me. Why can I not have a setting to select a 2-3-1-4 order and then use 2-deck view showing only decks 2 and 3? The only alternative is to change the player numbers from the previous DJ to 1 and 2 and then back to 2 and 3 for the next one, but that is very hard to do during a set. Am I missing something here? If should be really easy to select a deck order, same as it is for waveform order under Preferences/Controller/Enlarged Waveform.

Why not change the output deck assignment for the specific channels within the rekordbox audio settings? That would allow you to do what you need.

Thanks for the reply. I've been trying to do this but no matter what I set in the Deck/Channel settings, the deck will always default to the player number set on the XDJs. I can even put nothing in the Deck to Channel settings and it still defaults to the player numbers. I also tried the DJM900 Settings Utility, but I cant change anything there.

Here is what I do: Connect laptop to USBA input on the DJM, press Link on the XDJs, push to Connect, same on the other player. Everything is linked with ProLink. Whether I change Deck to Channel settings before or after, nothing makes a difference, Player 2 will always be Deck 2 in RB and Player 3 is Deck 3.

Am I really the only person with this problem? Or do people only use Rekordbox DJ with controllers?

Marcel > Sorry, I've gone through this again and I'm not sure I understand where you have a problem.

The XDJ on the left of the mixer is assigned player number 2 for when the DJ is mixing linked in a stand-alone method.

When you are going into performance mode, you assign the deck number on that player. For example, you assign the left deck connected to channel 2 as DECK 1, and the right deck connected to channel 3 as DECK 2. The outputs to the DJM within rekordbox are set for 3-1-2-4, so the connections don't matter and nothing changes.

Remember, the PLAYER NUMBER only matters for the link, not for the HID control.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yes, I finally figured it out. I was always using Pro Link, which I guess is the standard setup. But in Pro Link you cannot choose the Deck number for some reason. So it has to be done in HID mode, which means two extra cables, a USB hub and a whole lot of plugging and unplugging. A real shame, would be so simple to allow a deck choice in Link mode as well.

When linked, you can change the deck numbering - just ensure no USB or ethernet cables are connected, then change it in the utility menu.

If you're using XDJ-1000MK2's you can actually use the ethernet connection with just the one USB cable from the mixer to the computer, you would also need the Link Export driver. Unfortunately this doesn't work with the MK1.

You can use it with one cable, yes. However, you get the problem that I was describing originally as there is no way to choose the deck in RB. Once you press the rotary dial, the assigned deck is automatically the player number and then you have to play in 4 deck view if using player numbers 2 and 3. This has been my issue. Would be great if a deck selection was possible, like with HID mode, as Link requires way less cables and hassle to connect.

When you first link the player to rekordbox (performance mode), you ARE able to select the deck number you're controlling, regardless of the ProDJ link player assignment.

Hi, could you please walk me through this, step by step, as I've tried it dozens of times and can't get it to work. It works fine in HID mode, ie when you connect USB cables to the 1000MK2s and the DJM to the laptop. When you press Link and then push the rotary button, it asks yo which deck you would like in RB.

However, in Link mode (sorry, not sure what it's actually called but will call it Link mode) , ie players and DJM connected via Pro Link and then only one USB cable connecting the DJM to the laptop, I do not get any deck assignment option. As soon as you push the rotary dial, it automatically selects the deck number equal to the player number. I've tried changing input/output settings in preferences etc, nothing can change that.

Many thanks

Having same issue... players on ch 2/3 w/ pro dj link and RB defaults to 1/2 and have to play everything a 4-up mode which sucks.

How do we solve this?
