Can I export/extract music from USB to Harddrive?

Hey!

So my freaking database (external) harddrive I use to store all my music has crashed. My question is, since technically all the music is still on my USB sticks, can I somehow extract all the music from the USB back onto a different working harddrive? Then my issue would be solved. I have music I have collected for yeeeeears on this crashed harddrive. Please tell me this is possible?!

And yes I know I should have made a backup drive, but I did not, so spare me those comments please :-)

Thanks

Hey Sebastian,

Sorry to hear that ... and yes, always backup, and I won't spare you these comments because it needs to be said for others as well. ;) Might I suggest now is a good time to consider something like Backblaze? ($4/mo for unlimited cloud backups that happen automatically.)

To recover the tracks, start with an empty rekordbox library, connect the export USB drive, find the playlists you want to import, right-click and select Import to Collection. This will also ask if you want to import the music - say yes, and give it a destination. If the songs on the drive aren't all in a playlist, you can create a new playlist on the drive, add all the songs from the drive to it, then import that playlist.

Let us know if you have other questions.

Thanks so much for your response Pulse, this gives me hope that I can get back my music from my DJ USB to another drive. I just want to clarify how to do these steps as I really don't wanna mess anything up.

I guess I need to choose a new database harddrive now? Can I choose a Dropbox folder as my new database? How do I start with an empty rekordbox library? Is that the same thing as having "Collection" empty? Also would it not work if the Collection is not empty or is it simply to make it easier to see where my exported music is? Also now that I plugged in my USB, Rekordbox is telling me that my USB is synced with another Computer (I guess another harddrive), and asking me "Sync with my Tag" or "Do not sync with my Tag". Confused to which one I should choose and what they mean.... sorry for all these questions but I really don't wanna mess this up.

Thanks

No - the folder location is either the default (internal) or an external when you move it from within rekordbox. While I have a guide on putting your database in another location (such as Dropbox), it doesn't give you that choice right off the bat.

As for the import, don't worry about the tag sync - say no to that; it's trying to update the USB drive with the local tags, which are one thing you may end up losing as the import doesn't support that feature.
