Play external audio through Rekordbox DJ mixer

Does anyone know if it’s possible to route external audio (vinyl input in this case) through the Rekordbox DJ internal mixer? In Traktor this is called “live input” and it looks like in Serato it’s called “thru mode”.

My scenario is I have a DDJ-RX and want to mix a mixture of digital and vinyl, but much prefer the sound of the EQ and filters in Rekordbox compared to the mixer (the resonance on the filter makes it pretty much unusable for me) and would like to be able to add effects so I don’t just want to use the “phono” input source on the DDJ-RX, which bypasses Rekordbox entirely and uses the internal mixer.

Thanks

Tom D

Couldn't figure out how to do this, but worked around it by running both Rekordbox and Traktor at the same time, both with the DDJ-RX set as their input/output, then having Rekordbox for playing digital and in the background, Traktor with the two decks as live inputs. This means I can use the Traktor EQ and filters (which are much better than the DDJ-RX internal ones) on the vinyl after mapping the channel 3 and 4 controls on the DDJ-RX to Traktor.

Not a robust solution that you'd use in a club of course, but seems to work fine for home use. Only real downside I guess is I can't add Rekordbox effects to the vinyl input (I'm not that much of an effects user anyway, and could use the Traktor ones with another MIDI controller), and I can't record the whole set internally in Rekordbox (but can use an external recorder or something like Blackhole).

Live external input would be a nice feature for future though :)

You certainly can - with the DVS mode enabled, change the deck mode to THRU instead of the INT/ABS/REL options.

Hey, thanks for your reply - I did see this option mentioned online in the context of the Pioneer DJ INTERFACE 2, but I can't see the option in the Rekordbox UI - I only have Absolute, Relative or Internal as choices, as you can see below. Should I expect to see THRU here with a DDJ-RX connected?

Hey, Tom, I'm looking for a solution for a similar scenario (capturing the digital output from an external input after processing by Rekordbox) and I found this from the DVS manual for Rekordbox that might answer your last question:

"…THROUGH mode (This appears only when using a stand-alone audio interface)

・Audio from a turntable is sent through an audio interface to an output terminal as is."

Hey Andre, thanks for the reply. I looked into this and don't see the option either with my DDJ-RX or my Focusrite interface selected as the audio device. Reading up on it a bit more, I think it's a feature of some Pioneer audio interfaces only, so what we want to do isn't possible without one of those. Would love to be proven wrong!
