Connect digital master output to Raspberry Pi

Hi to you all,
I have a djm 850 and would like to build a little visual effect box using a Raspberry Pi. My idea is to send audio signals to raspberry and let it produce a video on the hdmi output in real time.

The problem is I know very little on digital output, do someone of you use it to send audio to a PC, for example to record your sets? Were can I find some infomation?

Best,
Andrea

The digital audio output is linear PCM; best to Google that for information on the standard and work from there.

Thanks a lot for the reply. Could you provide some info on the protocol? Is it I2S as I would expect? I googled a bit but no luck.

I guess it is safe to suppose it's I2S but I just want to be sure before digging any further
