Rekordbox & Music app on Mac, now working?

TLDR: Is RB 5.8.5 onwards now working correctly with Mac Music app & does not need an XML file anymore?

I updated to Catalina a month or 2 ago & discovered an app called Retroactive which installs iTunes into Catalina. I did this so I could still use iTunes with Rekordbox. I set it up then actually didn’t do much to check the setup as I got sidetracked.

Cut to yesterday, in looking into moving onto RB6 I needed to check what I’d setup. I decided to use Music app with my library of albums (non-DJ music) & iTunes app with my DJ Music - so I split my music into 2 instances using Music & iTunes respectively.

Rekordbox was on 5.8.3 (I think, the one before 5.8.5) and I discovered that iTunes in the browser window was actually displaying the “Album” library stored in Music app - the preferences setting pointing at the iTunes XML file (for “DJ” music library) in the correct position - I even created a dummy iTunes library to change the XML location to see if it changed. It always showed the “Album” library - again, there’s no iTunes library for this.

I then transitioned my “DJ” library to Music & opened that in the Music app. Reopened Rekordbox & refreshed iTunes. Lo & behold, now my “DJ” library is showing and if I make changes in the Music app they are updated in Rekordbox when I refresh! I updated RB to 5.8.5 & it’s all still working (as it is with RB6 too)

I’m confused as I didn’t think RB can read the Music app data (unlike some other DJ apps) & still needs to refer to an XML file? Have I missed something? Does it now work correctly? Everywhere I look indicates that an XML file is still needed? I’m just a little concerned that I’m missing something & down the line I’m gonna hit an issue...

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your feedback. Since we have released rekordbox ver581, rekordbox works with MusicApp to link library. So you need not refer to iTunes XML as before.

Thanks,
