DJM V10 First Observations

Hi there,

Really appreciate a view on the below observations and whether any of the development areas could be addressed in a firmware update.

Sound Quality - great, best sounding pioneer mixer ever. really happy

Shimmer Effect - like it nice new addition

Routing capabilities / 6 channels  - ace great work again

Send Effects - dub echo, short and long delays don't seem to really quantize to track, can sound quite off (with pot at 12). Love the feedback options for long tails but would be brilliant if it locked to the tracks BPM more effectively. Can be very harsh sounding (think Xone DB4 for what a good example of delays should be)

BPM Echo / Delay Effect - similar to above no way to adjust the delay tail to be longer which is really disappointing, love this to be addressed in a firmware update. I like the 3/4 echo effect and would that to have the ability to have a longer tail.

Filters - great really like them

4 Band EQ - great for sculpting sound around mids and highs but with one massive issue, the low frequency isn't a true cut and this is a really big issue for me when mixing. When using the 900 NXS2 i used to drop the low frequency pot to cut out those frequencies and i could then fade the exiting track out using the high pass filter with the EQ on ISO This isn't possible with the V10 you cant get rid of the low frequencies from the mix which is really annoying. Can this be remedied?

RMX1000 integration - bit annoying having to change the channel by the pot (appreciate you set it to master),  would it be possible to channel select the RMX by applying the beat effect to a specific channel? i.e. if you have the beat effect selected on channel 1 it also enables you to use the RMX without any other action?

Final view is it really is brilliant mixer and from a personal perspective if the changes requested could be implemented via a firmware upgrade it really would be the best out there.

I have ditched a Xone DB4 which I've used for years and years for this mixer and I could be tempted to go back to a DB4 but i'd like to see whether there will be improvements made following user feedback. The flexibility of the V10 is so powerful and with these changes it would be a joy to use!!

Love to hear if any thoughts on my observations

Sorry, didn't have one on hand, had to get one of our demo team to respond... thank you for your patience.

>> Send Effects ...

I would say that BEAT FX are designed to be synced to the beat and the SEND FX are designed to model guitar pedal FX that often are not synced to the beat, and the different timing offers a different character – but between both FX sections, you have both options. Plus, if you can add external FX units if you don’t want to use the internal SEND FX provided.

>> BPM Echo / Delay Effect ...

Will submit the feedback. Thanks

>> 4 Band EQ ...

The LOW band is an isolator that is tuned to the kick and sub bass. Might need to try removing some of the LOW MID as well to sound similar to the 3 Band EQ on the 900NXS2. Overall the new EQ has been well received.

>> RMX1000 integration ...

It is actually more flexible to be able to assign the MULTI I/O to it’s own channel rather than it following the same assignment of the BEAT FX like on past mixers. Overall this is a good thing IMO.

>> Final view...

Overall – appreciate the feedback but EQ is likely not changing. SEND FX likely not changing. BEAT FX, could possibly turn up the feedback but others may not like it. Assignment of MULTI I/O likely not changing.

Thanks for your comments!

Really disappointing to not have a pioneer response to this post. £2800 mixer you’d expect some reaction and feedback

I thought the low EQ had an option in the digital menu for switching between Isolate kill or standard kill?

I’ve just read the overview in manual again. High and low have full kill and the two kids have -26db only. I’m concerned now because I was looking at purchasing the V10 but it would be a shame if it isn’t a full kill.

I bought the V10 and I must say I'm deeply disappointed by the EQ bands... like mentioned above you can't get rid of the lower end at all and that makes the whole mixing process 9 out of 10 times extremely muddy - also between  the 9 and 12 position of the 2 middle bands there's almost no hearable sound sculpturing happening at all... like literally nothing... - a huge difference to the 900NXS1/2 where you are able to precisely accentuate certain parts of the low end - you'd assume that to even improve on the V10 with a 4th band but with the programming as it comes now it does exactly the opposite which makes it kinda useless for electronic music... :((

It's such a great versatile piece of gear based on all the other specs that come with it but the EQs being the core element of it it's just not fun to use anymore.

I honestly hope for a firmware update asap with improved bands and also (way more important) the ability to full kill all bands in the settings menu otherwise I will sadly have to sell the mixer again.

Max,

Posted the same thing to your other topic...

I'm sorry that you're not having as great a time with the V10 as you had hoped. I personally found the 4-band EQ to be a dream upgrade from the 3-band EQ of a regular DJM.

In order to use the EQs to your advantage, it's best to understand that the two mid bands are only -26dB cut, while the low is a full kill. Thanks to the frequency curves of having 4 bands to manipulate, you may need to use the mid-low knob as well as the low to remove or enhance the low-end of the song.

Unfortunately there are no plans to change this via firmware, but we do appreciate your feedback.
