double check that the name on the root of the flash drive is XDJXZ.UPD and not something like XDJXZ1.UPD being you may have had an older fw update in your downloads folder so it adds a 1

FollowUnable to update XDJ-XZ
Hi Folks,
My XDJ-XZ is in version 1.22. I download firmware version 1.23.
I formatted my pendrive in fat32, unzipped the UPD file to its root.
When I start the XDJ pressing USB1 STOP and RELOOP/EXIT, it shows the message ”Connect USB storage device into top USB1 port.” and suddenly clear the screen and MASTER REC lights start to blink. It just stay at this way without going on with update. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Thanks! But it hasnt. Its right.
ok good, can you shoot a video with your phone of everything so we can see whats going on?
The drive not only has to be FAT32 but also Master Boot Record (MBR). If it's not, it won't boot the system for the update. If that drive doesn't work, try another.
Also, if you downloaded with Safari, it may have corrupted the download file; try another browser.
Even without the pendrive. I turn on without pendrive, it shows the message ”Connect USB storage device into top USB1 port." and before I plug the pendrive, it starts blinking MASTER REC with empty screen. So I think the problem is not the pendrive...
Now that sounds like a failed update occurred so it's "stuck" looking for the update.
But XDJ XZ upgrade firmware manual says to start without pendrive, and after the message "Connect USB storage device into top USB1 port", its the release the buttons and insert the pendrive.

That is what is happening. I just recorded:

The blinking REC LED indicates a hardware failure.
Check the power cord, etc., and if there are no problems, contact Pioneer Technical Support in your area to arrange for repair of the unit.
