rekordbox 6 makes me sad and a bit mad

I know I am a little late talking about this but it has been eating away at my thoughts and I figured I would express my feelings about the issue.

First off I want to say I used Serato for a number of years and at the suggestion of a friend a few years ago. I tried out Rekordbox and loved the software as well as a number of its different features.

I use a DDJ-SX2 controller that came with a copy of Serato and I paid for a full copy of Rekordbox because I loved it that much.

With my current controller, that is a Pioneer device that I am very happy with. If I wanted to go to Rekordbox 6 I am forced to pay a subscription fee just to continue using my hardware with the newer version of a software that I already paid for. I do not understand the thought process behind this at all being both products are from Pioneer. Hell even if there was a one time upgrade fee I would even consider that.

On top of this if I did upgrade and pay for the subscription in order to make use of the Cloud feature I would also have to get and have an upgrade version of Dropbox. So roughly $15 a month just to continue using my set up the way i have been for the last few years or $30 to get the new available features and to be able to fully use them.

I hate to say it but this whole situation has changed my feelings about this company greatly and I know this post will not do anything but I really hope you at least think about this and reconsider your cash grab.

I do know I can continue using version 5 but at this point I think I will just go back to Serato if not for anything other then the fact I feel let down by this company and do not wish to support them any longer.

Hey recoil2,

Please understand that when you purchased the license for rekordbox 5, it was not a license to use any future versions that came along as well. Much like any other commercial software, a major version update requires the purchase of that version separate from the original. In our case, we moved from a single-purchase license model to a hardware unlock and subscription model when the new version was released. You are able to continue using rekordbox 5, which you purchased, as long as you have a computer that is capable of running that software.

If you were to move to rekordbox 6, you could use either the Core or Creative plan to use your controller. The Creative plan doesn't require that you use Dropbox, nor does it even necessitate purchasing a Dropbox subscription if you aren't putting more music than you have in the 2GB+ free plan.

I'm sorry you feel this is a cash grab - it's not; we're moving to this new model to allow for users to subscribe and receive updates and new features added to the software without having to pay for add-ons or major version upgrades.

Thank you for your feedback.

Subscription might make sense if you are a professional but for me as someone who actually DJ's quite a bit but never gets paid beyond the odd free festival ticket and a drink I will never subscribe to you ridiculous service.

Craig,

And then that's fine - the subscription isn't for you! The majority of DJs will be able to unlock the performance features they need with connected hardware; no license required.
