Crackling Noises with 2020 MacBook Pro + DJM-450 + Rekordbox

When using my DJM-450 and Rekordbox with my new 2020 MacBook Pro, there is continuous crackling noises during playback and when listening to the recorded audio.

Increasing the buffer does not resolved the crackling noises.

Does the DJM-450 driver work with the new 10th‑generation Intel Core i5 processor?

Apple Macbook Pro specifications:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports)

Processor: 2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5

Memory: 16GB 3733 MHz LPDDRX4

USB Adapter: Moshi USB-C to USB 3.0 Adapter

Rekordbox: Version 6.0.3 (Latest)

Sample Rate: 48000 Hz

Buffer size: 256 samples (5.8 ms)

DJM-450 Setting Utility: Version 2.2.0 (Latest)

Hey Stefan & Pascal,

Have either of you verified that the additional functions of rekordbox 6 are disabled if you're not using them? Video, Lighting, Lyric, DVS... they're all enabled by default (unfortunately), so go through the preferences and disable any you're not using. I'd also suggest you try using the Intel Turbo Boost toggle tool to see if that helps with the audio crackling.

I have the same issue since Version 6. Crackling and pops when playing normally. It also comes through on the recordings that I do. Never had this issue in version 5. I have done everything possible in the settings computer and software but still have issues.

Come on Pioneer get your act together. I have now just today redownloaded version 5. The worst part of that is I have to start from scratch analysing all my tracks. You can't go back with what you have done in version 6 to version 5.

This is just ridiculous

Not happy

Update - 7 February 2021

I have tried using Turbo Boost Switcher with the latest DJM-450 driver and the latest version of Rekordbox. I am still experiencing continuous crackling noises during playback and when listening to the recorded audio when using my DJM-450 and Rekordbox with my 2020 MacBook Pro running the latest operating system.

It seems like Pioneer DJ has not fixed this crackling noises issue with the latest DJM-450 driver update. What else should I try to solve the crackling noises issue?

Below is the Turbo Boost Switcher statistics while only running Rekordbox and DJM-450 Setting Utility.

Turbo Boost Switcher: Version v2.10.2

Turbo Boost: Disabled

CPU: 11% - 15%

Fan: +/- 1250 rpm

Operating System: macOS Big Sur Version 11.2

Rekordbox: Version 6.5.0 (Latest)

Sample Rate: 48000 Hz

Buffer size: 256 samples (5.8 ms)

@Stefan > What happens if you increase the buffer size over 500 samples?

I have disable the Turbo Boost on my MacBook and increased the buffer size to 512 samples on Rekordbox. I am still experiencing continuous crackling noises during playback and when listening to the recorded audio when using my DJM-450.

Turbo Boost: Disabled (using Turbo Boost Switcher)

Sample Rate: 48000 Hz

Buffer size: 512 samples (10.7ms)

It seems like the latest DJM-450 driver (3.0.0) released in February 2021 still does not work with the 10th‑generation Intel Core i5 processor in the MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports).

What else should I try to solve the crackling noises issue?

When I connect my two CDJ-900 players to my MacBook using the CDJ/XDJ Aggregator, I am able to decrease the buffer size to 64 samples on Rekordbox without needing to disable the Turbo Boost. I then do not experience any crackling noises during playback with my two CDJ-900 players.

Turbo Boost: Enabled

Sample Rate: 48000 Hz

Buffer size: 64 samples (1.3ms)
