New CDJ-3000's doing weird stuff

First off let me start by saying great job on the CDJ-3000's its a major improvement from the nxs2 and I have been really enjoying them.

Up until two days ago I have had no issues with my CDJ-3000's.

All of the sudden out of nowhere they started acting funny.

1. Beat grids will never match up anymore (even with perfect grids)

2. When I nudge a jog wheel it is jumping really weird on the display screen.

See this video, the mix is on beat and perfect and the grids are also perfect yet on the display the phase bar shows off and when I slightly move the job wheel you can see the phrase bar sporadically jump.

It seems like what is showing on the display screen phrase bar is not what is actually happening its almost like there is a discrepancy between what's really going on what is showing on the display.

I was not using Beat sync in the video example. Also I tried testing with beat sync on and it will never sync the tracks properly no matter what (with perfect grids). I have quantize on 1/2 beat.

Running firmware: 1.03

Hey Aaron,

Never the experience you want to have with new hardware, is it!?

I'll start by asking you to update the firmware to the 1.05 version and test to see if any of these issues are resolved or continue after the update, then we'll go from there if we need to dig deeper.

Thanks for getting back to me. I updated the version 1.05 and the same problem exists?

What's next?

Bump.

It's been 3 days and no response, anyone from Pioneer able to help?

I've experienced the 2nd issue as well and am running v1.05 on both units. To reproduce the issue;

1. Have a song playing on 2 decks simultaneously.

2. Adjust the jog wheel of the master deck.

3. The phase meter on the slave deck will jump around, as seen in Aaron's video.

It only appears to be happening with the NXS2 style phase meter. The new waveform phase meter seems to be ok.

Thanks for also reporting you have the same problem Haz. I assume this means it must be a software issue.

Hopefully Pioneer can chime in on this to help get it resolved.

Question... did you notice that the sync'd non-master deck also slows to match the pitch bending of the master deck? That's why the phase meter jumps around and looks glitchy.

It only happens when you adjust the jog wheel on the master deck.

It appears to have nothing to so with Sync because it does this with it on or off.

With the sync off, the juddering occurs as it's trying to calculate the position while the jog is still moving. If you stop pitch bending the master deck, that jumping around settles down. This is perfectly normal.

I don't see how this could be normal since it did not happen previously.

Like I said it happens with sync on or off.

So you are saying that ever CDJ-3000 will have the same issue with the phrase bar jumping like this?

I may have not noticed it before but just had a friend check his and it does the same thing.

Hi Pulse, thanks for your help.

I made a quick video showing how to reproduce it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_mBQN_pZFo

It can calculate the position of the jog wheel (while moving) fine with the new waveform phase meter, but it cannot with the NXS2 style phase meter. I tested this on a pair of NXS2 units and the issue is not present, leading me to believe this is an unintended software issue.

If possible, could you please guide me on how to create a support ticket with the engineering team?

I've passed this to our engineers for review, we don't have a timeline yet, but thank you for your patience while they investigate it.

The engineers have responded to this issue with the following comments:

The phase meter does not move smoothly because signals are not constantly received. The update frequency of such beat data is not always the same.
It is almost impossible to sync with the real time beat data. Probably using a signal line exclusively used for this purpose may be the only way to realize it.
This is why the current time lag in the phase meter may not be improved.
Beat grids also have some lags by 1 to 2 pixel.

This behavior is shown in all the CDJ models and always occurs.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your kind understanding.

I just bought the CDJ 3000 and they work perfectly without Rekordbox. When I use them with Rekordbox, it’s another story : when I press “Shortcut”, 90% of the screen is grayed out : I can’t adjust the Beat Jump value, the Grid value...it’s honestly a disaster. I have been in contact with the customer support for over a month and no one knows. The CDJ 3000 work fine with USB but Rekordbox screws everything up. My question : why releasing on the market such a great controller with such a flimsy software. Maybe Pioneer should let the software part to a professional company like Native Instruments with Traktor Pro

Those functions are not configurable on the CDJ but rather within rekordbox, which is why they're not available.

You CANNOT adjust the Beat Jump value that is triggered by the 2 arrows on the  CDJ with Rekordbox. All the settings on the Preferences are useless on that regard. I tried them all.  There is nothing in Rekordbox preferences that allows you to change the Beat Jump Value. I have been stuck with a 16 beat Beat Jump on my controller for quite some time and and it's quite a pain. Help anyone ?
