Noob - More techie Q's about moving DBs, NAS, Storage etc

Hi, apologies for more noob questions about Rekordbox and storage, databases etc. I've been googling / reading and got myself confused.

So I installed Rekordbox on my work W10 laptop just to have a play with it my music has been imported / analysed I've setup some cues / reminders etc. The actual music is stored on a NAS on my home network mapped as a network drive (Z:).

I've got a new (personal) PC coming Monday and I just want to move the database from my work to personal PC.

Music stays where it is. Is it as simple as File->Library->Backup Library (and select no when prompted whether to backup music as well)? Then restore library on new PC when rekordbox is installed?

I've also seen a post / video on here about moving the database to an external drive can I do that, then move it back to the local drive on the new PC?

Separate related question - I take it although you can 'share' a database between computers on an external USB drive, you can't 'move' or share the database to a NAS drive?

Similarly it is OK to store music on a NAS drive, rather than a local or external USB?

Sorry for all the q's.

Hey Freester,

You can move the database to an external drive, but the best thing to when moving computers is to File > Library > Backup on the old, then File > Library > Restore on the new. Even if the music is mapped to a different letter, it can be relocated easily, but the drive MUST be mapped as a local drive, rekordbox doesn't play nice with network paths.

If you wanted to share the database, you could put it external, but I would recommend that you ensure everything else is the same between computers (such as the user paths).

An alternative is if you're using rekordbox 6, you could use the cloud sync function and avoid any headaches.
