Rekordbox Video Questions

Some background information:

I'm still on Rekordbox 5.8.5 because last I checked Rekordbox 6 does not support AMD Ryzen CPUs. I've been livestreaming DJ sets on Twitch and have recently incorporated music videos into my set. I have a few questions:

#1: Occasionally, while playing a video, the output will turn black or dark and not show any video whatsoever (audio still works). This happens often on the left side of the "video" deck. Crossfader is in the middle, volume fader is all the way up, but the video preview on the left side will be black.

When I load a track that does not have a video, it shows the album artwork (which is what I specified in my settings), but loading any song that is linked to a video or loading any video on the left side only shows up as black. Nothing seems to fix this except for restarting Rekordbox, which is extremely disruptive to my DJ set.

What is causing this?

I tried to power thru my set with only the right side's video output working, but this problem eventually occurred on the right side as well, forcing me to restart. I've noticed that pressing the CUE button repeatedly (bad habit, I know) can sometimes cause this. I would hope the video plugin would be robust enough to handle rhythmic tapping of CUE and hot cues... otherwise that would defeat the purpose of linking and mixing videos as I would with songs.

#2: Speaking of linking videos to songs, is there a faster way to do this than loading the song and then loading the video on top of it and clicking the link button? It's a very tedious task, especially if you're updating your library and adding more and more songs and videos. The current workflow is extremely time consuming and I feel like most DJs don't even bother with music videos because of this.

#3: I have seen no tutorials or information videos on how Rekordbox 6's video plugin works. I imagine it's probably exactly the same as Rekordbox 5's plugin, but it seems like all I can find are old videos. My laptop has an Intel CPU and I might be convinced to give Rekordbox 6 another try, but the lack of information on the Video DJing features makes me hesitate, especially since it is a subscription-based software now. Perhaps many of the issues I described are alleviated in 6, but I don't know because I've seen no information on it.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Hey Shingük,

Unfortunately no version of rekordbox officially supports an AMD CPU, but we've seen better results with Ryzen 2/3 CPUs from their earlier siblings.

1) Not sure, I don't recall having encountered this before. If you could please file an inquiry ticket here, our support team will gather some additional information to assist you in resolving this issue.

2) Nope, unfortunately it's a slow process as most people aren't manually linking videos often, so it wasn't optimized to be any faster. Sorry!

3) It's exactly the same as 5, but you need a Creative plan subscription for video output (you can practice in all other plans but it will not output the video / it's watermarked).
