Hi, I would like some guidance on the best way that I can record my mix's via rekordbox as i'm struggling to find out how.

Hey Olly,

Are you using rekordbox to perform (performance mode) or just for recording?

I would like to use it in performance mode but I don't know how to connect my decks and mixer to my laptop. Any thoughts?

Hi Olly,

All 3 units would be connected via USB; the DJM-250MK2 would unlock the performance mode functions, and the XDJs would link to control the software via HID control.

Okay that makes more sense, therefore what are the names of the cables i would need to use in order to carry this out just usb to whatever fits into the units??

Just USB cables - they would have been provided in the boxes with the products. They're your run of the mill USB-A-to-B cables.

Hi, i tried connecting my usb cables to the laptop but my laptop didn't read any of them and so couldn't get into performance mode. is there another way of just recording without having to be in performance mode?

You would need (at the very least) the DJM-250MK2 connected for the XDJs to function as controllers in HID mode, but performance mode can launch without any hardware connected. Which version of rekordbox are you using?

Okay, and do you have the "DJ" license activated so you can open performance mode?

Great. So with rekordbox in Performance mode, and the XDJs and DJM connected via USB, open the preferences to the AUDIO tab and scroll to the bottom; what do you see under "Control Devices"?

The XDJs for control, the DJM for audio; all of them via USB to the computer.

Then you're probably not in Performance mode. At the top left corner of rekordbox, do you see a drop-down to switch from EXPORT to PERFORMANCE?

Okay, so that sounds like you don't have the license activated - check in the Preferences > License to see if it's activated?

If you don't have the rekordbox 5 key any more, you could always upgrade to rekordbox 6, which is unlocked automatically by the DJM.

You can download rekordbox from rekordbox.com; the DJM will be detected and unlock the corresponding functions without the need to do anything else.
