Moving database to USB-Drive and using to Mac's

Hi Guys,

I have both a Mac Mini and Macbook Pro with all my music stored within iTunes (now called Music) and I have a Itunes Music Match subscription which means that my music libary is synchronized through iCloud at all times, so basically my 2 computers a duplicates.

I bought a new external ssd drive where I want to place to the entire Rekordbox collection/database so that I can unplug the drive from one mac and insert in the other like nothing ever happened.

Changes the locating of the Collection/database isn't a problem but the music stays in the iTunes music folder and doesn't get copied to the drive, is there a way to get Rekordbox to copy the music from the iTunes and store it one the drive?

The whole idea of this is to set it up so that my drive is ready to go at all times without the need to sync before going out playing (I only use the drive when playing no laptop)

I hope you can help! :)

First and foremost, don't expect that you'll be able to move the drive between computers flawlessly unless each of them have the files and folders for your music in EXACTLY the same place, and by that I mean the same username, and same music folder organization.

Personally, I'd just move all the music to the external drive along with the database and that way everything is always where it needs to be.

Like @Pulse said, your problem can be filepaths, see this video:

Why cues, loops etc can disappear from your DJ software aka filepaths matter

If both Mac's have the exact same MacOS user name then you can simply move the RB database to the external and let both Macs use the database on the external.

If you want to make your entire Rekordbox collection shareable regardless of macOS or Windows, I've made an app for that:

Shareable backup from a Rekordbox or iTunes collection for back-to-back preparation and more
