I meant to say the volume on the song you want to cue turned down. It's a brilliant programme btw, takes basically all the work out of dj'ing!
Hi there, I hope you can help me! I've been a dj for about 20 years but always stubbornly refused to use software and laptops because I like to make things as hard and stressful as possible, not even ever used a sync button. Over lockdown, with my career probably in the toilet I paid for Rekordbox and it's all very confusing, but I'm trying.
Anyway, I assumed the cueing situation would be same as cdj's, the volume on the little mixer tab thingy, cue button lit up and i'd hear it through my headphones so I can mix. The master is coming out of the MacBook speakers, but no sound out the headphones. I've tried putting the headphone output to 1 and 2, but those are the only options for the master output. I know decks but am clueless with technology and I've searched everywhere and no solution works, or it's all about dj controllers plugged in.
I have the headphone volume turned up on the interface, and the mix dial makes zero difference, not a peep of sound. I stayed up nearly all night trying to make this work. Help please!

Hey Lydia,
With a regular mixer, you can consider it as having two separate outputs; one for the master output, one for the headphone cueing. (You might consider that it has 3 if you think the booth is different, however it's just a stem of the master output with a separate volume control.)
Unfortunately the audio system in your computer only has 1 output; the speakers OR the headphones; the speakers are typically automatically disabled / bypassed when the headphones are connected. In order to have separate outputs for cueing and master, you could use a splitter to separate the left / right signal into two mono channels where the master could go to the left and the cueing to the right. That would allow you to connect external speakers to the left connection of the splitter, and headphones to the right connection.
Ideally, the best way to do this is to have a mixer or controller that allows that function in its hardware, but if you need more information or instructions, please let us know.
