DDJ SX2 Master Volume and Headphone Volume Issue

 
hi all -
 
i'm running a Pioneer DDJ-SX2 w/ Serato Pro on a Macbook Pro on Catalina 10.15.7. 
 
when i play a song from either the platters or from turntables, whether i'm master output to the speakers (master level) OR when i hit "Master Cue" to the headphones then the volume on either the speakers or through the headphones comes through but is extremely low and muffled. 
 
however, if i turn on any of the individual Cues for the headphones the output to the headphones is as it should be. (turning off the master cue doesn't effect it unless i turn headphone mix knob all the way to master - then my headphones are down to the Master ouptut level again. 
 
i'll note that the master level and headphone levels do adjust as you turn either knob up or down
 
i've also tried multiple USB cords from the computer to the board and have had the board/computer/Serato for 3 years so it's all been working until recently. all firmware, etc are up to date. i've seen similar question through the forums but no answers.

Hi Par,

The level sent to the headphones from the master headphone cue is dependent on the master volume level, so if you have the channel meter peaking at 0dB, but the master meter is low and only peaking around -24dB, that's going to be a significant difference in levels.

With the headphone cue mix knob at 12 o'clock between CUE and MASTER, set the master volume knob so the master meter matches the audio levels from one of the channels when the fader is all the way open (crossfader too if you use it).

Then, press the master headphone cue button, then turn it off, and press the channel cue button - the levels should now be equal from one to the other.

If this is not the case, a video may be helpful to help diagnose if there is a problem with the hardware.

This is a misunderstanding of how the cueing system works...

The channel cue is pre-fader, so no matter what you do with the channel fader, the headphone volume for that will always remain the same. The master cue is post-fader, so you're basically hearing what the audience hears.

The reason there's an imbalance between the channel and master level is the channel level is WAAAY too hot. Adjust the channel trim to get that level peaking at the first orange LED, then adjust the master volume to show the same level on the master meter.
