Traktor scratch pro with djm900 + one cdj900 + one technics 1200 - is my setup right?

Hi,

Tried searching but couldnt find an answer.. Hoping somebody can help.. I wanted to make sure that i had the midi clock communicating properly (and to the extent that its possible).

I think i got everything working except effect quantize and sync functions seem a bit off and its hard to tell if they are working. I also cannot see the current bpm on my cdj. Thnx to this forum and especially to pulse for alot of info om the forum that got me up and running.

Heres the basics of my setup. Does this sound right?

  • traktor scratch pro 2 setup with audio in/out per the video on this forum.
  • i have cdj and djm connected via digital spdif cable. I also have them each plugged into LAN. I thwn only have the djm plugged into PC via USB cable. i.e. The cdj is not connected via usb as i figured it all gets rputed thru the djms usb connection.
  • everything plays and i can mix all the inputs using external mixer.
  • heres the part im confused about - how do i make sure traktor and the pio gear are 'communicatimg' as tightly as possible? I set it up like this:
  • djm900 has quantize OFF
  • cdj900 has quantize ON
  • i have traktor pro 2 setup in prefs with midi clock on at 0 ms latency.
  • i also have traktor pro 2 setup in top left of the main screen to SYNC the clocks and then i click the little play/pause button in clock section.
  • then on my djm, i press the midi on button on top right and i click midi start button as well.

I dont hear much of a difference in the way that my sound gets quantized to effects, etc which leaves me questioning if the setup works. Is there something i should check or can somebody point me to proper settings for getting the tsp + djm integrated? I dont really need to use any midi or hid controls.. I just want to quantize and sync as needed.
Also, it would be great if cdj displayed the bpm of song playing in traktor. The djm does display the bpm but cdj does not.

Any help would be appreciated..

Thnx
Kev

to check if the djm filters are being quatised, run the filter that effects high pass- mid pass - low pass - mid pass - high pass, i think it's phaser or filter, basicly sounds like your riding a sine wave. On the DJM slect 4/1 run your filter, it should stay on beat  and reset ever 4th beat. If you need to know if your whole set up synced, on the CDJ create a 4 beat loop, on tracktor run the metranome, see if they are on sync. if not then no your stuff is not sync up correctly.

@Kevin > First, quantization does not apply to software; it's only for music exported from Rekordbox when used with the players, or if you're on the mixer, when linked with the player.

Second, the CDJ will not display the BPM but the DJM will because the DJM is reading that from the audio coming from Traktor.  If you want to have that info displayed in the player, you'll need to assign it as an HID/MIDI controller within Traktor.  The CDJ must be connected via USB, it does not share that connection signal over the LINK via the DJM.

Thnx Pulse - ive been trying a few things and im not quite sure i have traktor and djm900 synced up the best possible way..

I think the best setup would be to use traktors midi clock as the master and djm900 as the slave. Sound right?

I am using midiox and i cant seem to get pioneers clock to stop sending signals.. Am i supposed to turn off midi clock send on the djm 900?

Sorry but im just a bit confused by the whole midi clock thing as im new to traktor and midi clocks.. Any guidance? If i ha

Sorry hit reply too fast..

If i have the djm 900 timecode workimg right, is that as far as i can go? Or do i need to get the midi clock master / slaves setup right?

Thnx
