Is the 2000 mixer taking things a bit too far?

Ok I may be sticking my head on the chopping block here, I know this mixer has many fans around the world, it is very impressive.

Having used it in a club I can say that I do like some of the new controls. The filters for example are easier to use without worrying about going too far the other way when turning them back.

But all the rest, the touchscreen thing especially, I find really difficult to get to grips with. It's the kind of thing you need to spend hours going through in your own time.

The best thing about the 600, 700, 800, and the recent 900, is that essentially the layout is the same with only a few minor differences. The 1000 is well layed out and easy to jump straight onto, nice big master controls etc

The 2000's potential can only be maximised if you actually own one, which means even top djs arriving at the club to find a 2000 mixer are finding it a little daunting. This means we even consider using the 900 nexus instead as the regular main room mixer even when a 2000 is available. Therefore I can't really see this being the mixer of choice for many clubs like the 800 or 1000 has been.

I'm interested to hear the opinion of a few pioneer guys on how we are supposed to figure this thing out merely by watching youtube, as the price is out of reach for most of us (my home setup is still 3x mk3 1000s, serato, and a djm800)

Also what are average jo user experiences? ... have you had to turn up to a club and use one without any prior experience?

My personal opinion would be, in the next generation of mixers, to keep the best manual moving parts of the 2000, and save the touchscreen as an addon effector unit (like the korg chaos pads)

Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining or being ungreatful, I have found it to be really impressive technology, and I still have a lot of trust in pioneer dj equipment and their research team. I'm just raising the question mark...

thoughts?

@Mike >  Perhaps I am biased but I really don't think its a mixer that takes a lot of time to grow accustomed to - it could take some time to master, yes.

To be honest, if you strip out the 'centre' bit (i.e. the built in EFX unit) you've effectively got another 800 / 900, right? And that is something typical of Pioneer - its easy to migrate from one generation of mixer (or CDJ for that matter) to the next.

The 2000 opens up new remixing possibilities and allows the DJ to add greater creativity to their sets.

yea I agree, to pick up and use basic mixing controls it is as easy as anything else, but I found mastering the other mixers much less time consuming.

I just find it rather daunting and I know a few people who would shy away from pushing it's capabilities which seems a bit of a waste.

Pretty sure you are biased. Ha! I probably would be too if I was in your shoes.... I just can't see a huge market for the 2000. Would be interesting to see which clubs have one installed as their main? I would bet only the really big clubs that can afford to line out an array of mixers to choose from, such as those in Ibiza and the big cities

I had three of my mates play for the first time on my 2000 at the club they picked up all the beat effects and inst effects really quick but the touch screen not so much. There are things on the mixer for everybody, people new to it and people that have spent some time on it. I would not have another mixer on the market. :)

tbf the only additional element to the mixer is the touch screen.

other than that its the same as the 8/900 in principle.

Touchscreen (remix / MIDI / Freq Mix) / additional effects / ability to tweak EQs of the effects / built-in network hub (which provides a range of possibilities in itself)...

C'mon, its not just the touchscreen.

I enjoy my 2000 but don't use the touchscreen near enough. The Lan Hub is a  good feature.

I use the top effects unit most.

I've tried the 900 mixer and found it to be a nice update on the 800 but thought the finger slide gizmo was a bit gimmicky.

I have asked many times for pioneer to release some info / software to help run the midi screen but it falls on deaf ears unfortunately..
