DJM 900 nexus traktor setup with turntables

Hi - I understand the DJM 900 nexus is traktor certified, so does that mean I do not need a traktor A8 or A 10 sound card to use traktor with turntables (i.e. just connect via USB to computer and sound via RCA's with mixer)?    I've seen A-trak and other DJ's setups use the djm-900 with the A10 but so its a bit confusing.

Thank you.

Anthony

Hey Anthony, You don't need any sound cards since the 900 is certified. I dont have a 900 (i have a 2000) but I would assume it would be just like my Denon DN-X1700 mixer that is certified. first turn all your channel selectors to USB. Then go to Traktor and into the setup wizard. follow the steps for your djm 900 that should be under the pioneer selection. Then you should be good to go. You can go into your settings in Traktor to make sure that the djm 900 is selected as your sound card. (which the setup wizard will do) Then go to time code and check that you see the "ring" spinning. "VERY IMPORTANT". make sure the midi button on your mixer is "on" before you open Traktor. Good Luck.

It's not necessary to have the midi button on when using the djm 900. Unless you plan on mapping some buttons/knobs (which you most certainly can do). Otherwise, the djm 900 is pretty much plug-n-play with traktor. Once you configure your settings in the setup wizard you should be ready to go (since you are using turntables, you have to assign them to channels 2 and 3; as far as I know).

You can also use the 2 additional virtual decks, that way you can use all 4 channels if you wish. However, if you don't plan on using a controller/cdj to control these additional decks, you can use your mousepad to do so.

Are you sure about not needing the midi button on? Don't that send the signal to the computer for Traktor? I know with my DN-X1700 I need the midi button on. I am asking because I don't have a 900. If you do? Then I guess we will go with u on that.

@DJ Pete, yes, I have a djm 900 and I use serato (sl3), traktor, and rekordbox/cdj's.

cool. But with serato you dont use the djm 900's internal sound card. It is not serato certified. It is Traktor certified. I think the midi button needs to be on for traktor? So I think your wrong? I will do some research to make sure.

Here is a video Anthony.

And yes..... You do need to start your midi signal. There are many video's on youtube. just search... djm900 traktor setup.

@ Housekeys... Its been my experience on all dj forums that if your not 100% sure about something? You shouldn't comment on it so you don't lead the person who needs help down the wrong path. page 17 in your manual Anthony tells you that it needs to be on. The utility light should come on when u are sending a midi signal.

@DJ Pete, whoa man you need to slow your roll brother. I'm not 100% sure about something? I'm willing to bet my last dollar that you DO NOT need to have MIDI on in order to use traktor with DJM 900 Nexus. How do I know this? BECAUSE I HAVE THE MIXER and I use traktor DAILY, did you not read my post? I never stated that I wasn't sure about something, I told him exactly how to set up, because like said earlier; I'm speaking from EXPERIENCE. Unlike you who CLEARLY stated "I don't have a 900". So I think you need to sit this one out bud.

If you need me to post a video showing that MIDI doesn't need to be on then I will but I'm sure a moderator or another user can chime in on the issue to clarify. And yes, there are video's with people using traktor with MIDI on, but that's because they wish to MIDI map effects, cues, or the mixer section within traktor to match that of the physical mixer; which is an option but not necessary. Even in the video you posted, @Pulse never mention'ed needing MIDI on.

Also, I never stated that the mixer was serato certified, I just mentioned another DVS to show that I'm well versed and well informed when it comes to using the DJM 900, both as a standalone mixer with CDJ's and with a DVS.

And just a correction to my previous post regarding traktor, "(since you are using turntables, you can't assign them to channels 2 and 3; as far as I know)"

You don't need MIDI on unless you plan on using the surface controls of the mixer to control the software.  If you only want to use the soundcard portion, you DO NOT need to use MIDI.

Turntables can only be connected to channels 1 and 4 because that's where the phono pre-amps are.

C'mon guys, things are not that difficult that we need to start arguments.  Let's all play nice and help each-other, mkay?
