[SOLVED] DJM-2000 External Mixer Traktor

Hi guys,

I had a small question regarding the use of traktor through the DJM-2000 and/or through the CDJ-2000. As I've understood it so far, I can either decide to plug in the DJM-2000 through USB into my laptop, and be able to use its higher quality sound card. Then I'd need to also plug in the CDJ-2000 through USB (without the phono cables), probably into a hub since I'd be running out of space on a laptop, and be able to control Traktor with the CDJs working as a MIDI controller.

Now here is my question. Is it also possible to plug in the two CDJ-2000s into the laptop via USB, use them as the external mixer for the sound card, but nonetheless have them connected to the DJM-2000 so as to be able to use it as a stand alone mixer (i.e. it's not directly connected to traktor.

I was looking up how best to connect 2xCDJ2000 and 1xDJM-2000 mixer to traktor, and couldn't come up with anything definitive. I know that the sound card on the CDJ and the DJM is the same, so as far as audio quality I wouldn't see the down side. It would just seem easier to plug in the 2x CDJs rather than also having to plug in the DJM.

Anyways thanks in advance

In my tests, so I think it is a safer way to connect DJM 2000 mixer soundcard. If you must work at a private party and need to use CDs for any song that you not have in your computer. So I solved this dilemma with the following variant of the connection.

• DJM 2000/900 as sound card via a USB hub.

• Do my audio output option in the computer program to channel 2 and 3.

Even do the choise for external mixer, in the softwear setup.

• set the mixer on USB also on the mixer.

• CDJ Do i connect with USB to the hub.

And now even the phono cable, analog or digital channels 1 and 4.

• DJM 2000/900 on channel 1 and 4. Putt that on what you have connected your CDJ too.

• Then you choose DJM as sound cards.

You get automatic opportunity to be able to record your gig, without having to plug anything extra, in addition to this variant.

• Even with this setup you get the opportunity to be able to play CDs. While playing from the computer. When you intend to play CD disc so just press selection keys to CD. And when you want to return to the computer control in midi mode so you only press the selection keys on LINK.

And now, are you back for data / MIDI routing.

Thanks for the reply DjockeB. I'm guessing that is the most practical solution, and it's also nice to be able to use the MIDI panel of the DJM to be able to control the traktor effects (with tsi files). But here's another question, what if I'm playing after someone who is also using the DJM as an external mixer in Traktor? What is the best way to transition from him then?

And what if he is just using USB keys?

I'm only asking since I'd rather learn the lesson now than have a bad experience when it comes down to it.

Anyways hope you can help me out again

Hehe ...! You got me on the spot. I have not tried to connect two computers via USB hub. But I do not think it would work. Because I think it would be a conflict when the sound card settings. The risk is that the wrong computer to malfunction. And it will be quiet on the dance floor suddenly. Do try and see what happens ... But there is no solution that I would do. Instead, I can imagine that you use a USB stick when you should do a DJ shift. And then make a switch between your computers. For that moment when you must change your computer, which is connected to DJM, to another computer. Is only when to pull out the USB cable and that's when it is connected to the computer. And the next dj then just connect the USB cable and power. Booting up and configure the audio settings on your computer. Then also on CDJ Get a setting. But you can certainly how. And it's fine to keep the firm than the USB stick plays. That's what I think is a point of it all. That you can use another source during operation. And on another channel on the DJM.

You are asking the question of when they use a USB stick. It will be the same as if you are using a CD disc. Now if you remember what I wrote before, how to connect the CDJ's line signal to channels 1 and 4 on DJM.

Another lesson I have learned is when the sound technician has connected the power to the wrong terminal. So in this case it happened to the circuit breaker tripped. The gist of this was that I had to restart the program in the computer. Configure the sound card settings. Adding CDJ as MIDI control. And this took me almost 1 minute. It's a really long time when it is quiet on the dance floor. Since then, I always have a USB stick with me and plugged in the CDJ's. And it is faster to get the music going again after such an event.

@Johannes > @DjockeB is correct that the mixer will be a better soundcard, but the reason for it is that if you are using the CDJs as your audio interface(s), you'd have to either configure an aggregate device (Mac) or use ASIO4ALL in order to merge the two devices into one for Traktor (it doesn't like more than one audio interface).

You CAN NOT connect two computer via USB (well, you can, but they are using specially designed USB cables for data transfer) and certainly should not attempt to kludge together your own cable for two computers to share one USB device (be it a hub or otherwise).

The best bet for transition between DJs is to mix to a CD or USB source directly from the CDJ (and yes, it should still be connected by the RCA connections to the mixer for this very reason) and then disconnect the USB from the mixer and move it to the other DJ's computer.
