[SOLVED] DDJ SX Pitch control freezes

This has happened at two gigs now, so this is a BIG problem for me. Sometimes after a while of beatmatching, the pitch control freezes. I wiggle it up and down, and the pitch does not change. You could see on the screen in the deck that the pitch percentage does NOT MOVE. Eventually, after literally jerking the pitch control all the way up and down for about five seconds, the pitch control finally works.

I do a lot of quickmixing-- so this is a HUGE ISSUE for me. HELP!!!!! For now, the DDJ-SX is staying home and I'm going back to my other MIDI controller setup. This is very frustrating.

Guess I should mention that I was not mixing video, I was using 320kbps MP3s and iTunes files, and that I'm using an early 2008 Apple MacBook for Serato DJ. This MacBook has worked faithfully for Serato Scratch Live, Video-SL, and Serato Video, so I lean on the idea that this is not an issue with my laptop.

exactly the same happened to mee last night. Very annoying. There is enough to do while mixing, I dont want to watch my hardware if it is working fine.

I noticed a small red arrow directly over the pitchfader signed up. Then the fader ist frozen. After moving it completly up and down it the pitch was back on work. perrty strange

I am using a Mac 10.6.8 and have never had an issue.  I just started using the DDJ SX and my tracks keep dropping out.  The platters also do not respond immediately.  When I release the platter it takes about half a beat to start playing.  I cannot have these issues live, so I am leaving the unit at home and debating on returning it.  Too bad because when it is working it is great.

I figured out what is going on. Tell me if this is normal.

I'm using Deck 1, and alter the pitch (to, let's say, +2.5%).

I crossfade to Deck 2.

I press the Deck Select button to switch from Deck 1 to Deck 3.

The pitch control is still at +2.5%. I attempt to move the pitch control up or down normally. IT DOESN'T CHANGE THE PITCH (the pitch is frozen in Serato DJ).

I FREAK OUT. I JERK THE PITCH CONTROL UP AND DOWN WILDLY FOR FIVE SECONDS. I CURSE.

Eventually, the pitch control unfreezes.

NOT COOL. Is this normal with Four Deck mixing? I would have thought that the song loaded in Deck 3 would have been automatically nudged up +2.5% as positioned on the pitch control, but that is not the case.

In the meantime, I have figured out a momentary fix:

Before pressing the Deck Select button, I reset the pitch control to zero. Then I press the Deck Select button to switch to Deck 3. No freezing issue.

STILL, THIS IS SHOULDN'T BE AN ISSUE, BUT IT IS. I will try to recreate in a video and upload to YouTube sometime soon.

@JamminDown JD > I've asked the engineers for their input.

@All > The answer from the engineer in charge of DDJ-SX is as follows:

"The pitch control issue raised by Jammin'Down JD is just as per spec.

Please refer to "Deck section 6 TAKEOVER indicator" on page 12 of "Operating Instructions of DDJ-SX" for details of how the TEMPO slider works.

http://pioneerdj.com/support/files/img/DRI1094B.pdf

The following issue raised by Derek Moellinger seems to be caused by not adjusting the JOG sensitivity.

"The platters also do not respond immediately. When I release the platter it takes about half a beat to start playing."

We are wondering whether he adjusted the TOUCH SENSOR LEVEL control on the front panel."

The touch sensor control controls how quickly the song responds to the turning of the jogwheel to adjust speed up or down.  This is not my issue.  My issue is if I press down on the jog wheel and release it the software takes about half a second to respond to this.

Hello,

ich have exactly the same problem like "amminDown JD".

But i work with Traktor DJ and not with Serato DJ.

This Bug interferes extreme with my way of working  because to unfreeze the pitch you must move the pitch control up or down for several times.

Currently i must change the Tempo, directly in the software with my mouse.

That could never be the intention, of course.

Having the same problem with the platter not responding immediately to me taking my hand off it.  BIG PROBLEMS when it comes to a live performance setting.  This almost completely negates even having the platters at all.  Any solutions from users or Pioneer?

Exactly the Same problem here with my DDJ-SX.

Using Serato DJ with Windows 7 on a Dell work station with 2x XEON processors (4 cores each one)

This was my "problem".

One more time: To read the manual is really important.

Solved now.

A lot of thank's
