SeguirCan the DDJ-SX Save and Store Loops?
Hi folks, forum noob here. :)
So I bought my DDJ-SX about a week ago and I'm absolutely LOVING IT so far. Sure, there's a few things that I wish it did better and some features I wish it had, but I'm for the most part completely happy. I came to it from the Novation Twitch and I'm wondering if a feature on the Twitch is available on the SX. Is it possible to create and store multiple loops in the SX so they are readily accessed at the push of a button? On the Twitch, pushing the Auto Loop button twice will give you access to 8 slots for storing 8 loops in. Once these loops are stored, it's a simple matter of pressing the performance pad containing the loop you want and voila! your loop is instantly activated. This feature is VERY handy, but is it possible to do this on the DDJ-SX? I didn't see anything in the manual about it, however the review on DJ Tech Tools makes it sound as though it IS possible to do this on the SX. If it is possible, can someone please tell me how to do it? I use this feature of my Twitch quite regularly and would like to do it on my SX. I hope I've explained the issue clearly!
Thanks.

Thanks for your response! What I'm still not 100% sure about is if you can actually fire those 8 stored loops from the DDJ-SX pads? Or must it be done with a mouse or on the computer keyboard? This would seem a bit short-sighted on Pioneer's part if that's the case. :( Happily, it's probably something they could fix with a simple firmware update.
As far as I'm aware it's only software triggered.
I guess they/you could map the controller to trigger the loops via the pads which would be cool. Maybe double up the Hot Cue/ Slicer/ Sampler button so when you hit one of those buttons with the 'Shift' you go into Loop mode and use the pads to trigger them.
Put a request in on the Forum and see what others say, maybe there is an option already or someone will suggest another way
Hi Jake
Worked it out but it's not that quick!
On the software make your loops and save them (8 can be made)
On the hardware look at the Loop section next to the pads. You will see under the 'Auto Loop', 1/2x, 2x etc etc is writing in white. White writing as you probably know means you have to press the 'Shift' button to use these button functions.
You can use the Loop buttons to make the Loops active, Loop Shift, Select the Loop, Reloop/ Exit.
Would be better if you could do like I said above and allocate the loops to the pads
Dude, you're the bomb dot com! I'll play with it tonight and see how it works. I will also put in a request for it...it's a basic feature that is pretty much a given on other controllers with performance pads. I don't understand why Pioneer left it out of the SX.
Thanks for your help!
No worries bud!
Jake, I'm disappointed to find this thread! I'm also gonna request this feature as it should be a pretty standard feature with anything containing performance pads.
Really hope they add the ability to map loops to the pads in future updates.
All of this information is also located in the owner's manual. ;)
Really, Pulse? I'm not seeing it anywhere under the performance pads section. Wanna tell us what page?
Sorry, been spending a bit too much time around the DDJ-SZ which has the loop feature on the pads.
With the SX you can use the SHIFT+LOOP IN button to move through the loop slots and then if you create a loop, it is stored there. It's all on page 12 under the Loop In button (see Loop Slot).
Wooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwww, so Pioneer couldn't have hooked up the SX with the same pad functions as the SZ. That's complete bullshit.
I get the whole price/feature difference thing. I just think it's incredibly cheap/sleezy/stingy to leave out a software feature that completely could have been included with no additional hardware.
(Speaking of which, there's no fucking edit button on these forums, so I have to make another post.) Thanks for the info, Pulse. I'll check it out and see if it's actually what we're looking for or just a watered down version.
I'm fairly pissed that it's the exact same beat pad, yet they purposely gimped the SX so they could try and squeeze another thousand dollars out of it's consumers. Typically when there's a "basic" and "professional" model, you get a bit more hardware with the "pro" type model, but all software is maximized to the hardware.
Sorta like how internet providers in Canada cap people's data usage. Unlimited data costs the company no more/less than limited data but "NOpe, fuck you, we want more of your money soooooooo we're gonna limit your product forcing you to pay for what should have been offered to begin with."
I'll allow you to silently ignore the fact that the SX was out for almost two years before the SZ, so some of those feature requests that weren't on the SX were pushed to the SZ. ;) The reason you won't see it as an upgrade is there is no silk-screening of the feature on the buttons to indicate how to access it, and adding "hidden" features like that has only ever happened once -- on the DJM-T1 where they added a third "shift" layer.
And I don't know what kind of crappy ISP you have, but Shaw seems to do me just fine, never complaining that I upload more than I download every month (and I don't torrent).
