[SOLVED] DDJ-SX hiss and noise from balanced outputs?

Hello - I'm using QSC K12 speakers and with only the DDJ turned on (no laptop connected) I'm getting an usual hiss from my speakers. I've owned the DDJ-S1, VCI-300 and they were totally clean and quiet when volume turned all the way down. I have clean power and have moved to multiple outlets to make sure. I went back to Guitar Center today and they said there should be zero noise coming from this mixer. They hooked up their display unit and were shocked the same thing happened. With no music playing there is enough signal coming out to keep my K12's from auto powering off. Can you help?

I also tried the RCA outputs to my speakers and the same thing is happening.

This is a problem and I have now been able to replicate in 3 DDJ -SX units. The balanced outputs are very noisy. Both locations I visited are authorized Pioneer dealers and when plugged into any QSC K series speakers these controllers emit way too much signal at zero volume. Does anyone have an idea how to resolve this?

I'm still waiting on my unit, but I'm very worried by this. I'll have to send it back if I have such a problem. In the venues I play sometimes everything has to be muted for a speech or something else and a hizz and/or pink noise would be inacceptable.

I don't think it has something to do with the ground if there is nothing plugged in while testing (except power which has no ground and speakers).

Have you tried if it's getting worse when connected with an external source of computer?

Could you please keep us informed of your findings?

Well I talked with Pioneer tech support and they claim no knowledge of this issue. Advice is send in to service shop. Problem is I have been able to replicate this on 3 different unit with 3 different sets of speakers. Not sure what else to try....there should be no signal going to my speakers when all volume down. Having my Mac plugged in makes no difference. Anybody else use this unit with QSC K series? Are you getting the green signal lights flickering with no output?

I've had the exact same problem as you with the same gear. I get a ton of noise coming out of the output of both the XLR and the Booth Output.... I just replaced one unit and had the same issue with the 2nd one.... I am going to send it in for service, but I hope there is a fix...

Dave,

I am sorry to say the problem is not resolved and Pioneer has yet to admit any concern. They say to send it in but can't tell me what they would do if they had it. All other units I have tested do the same thing. Can someone from Pioneer please look into this?

@Patrick > I've genuinely not heard of this issue before. Did you have the power cables isolated from the audio cables in your setup?

Have you tried swapping USB cables and disabling any background apps on your computer? What kind of audio cables do you use? How did you connect the SX to your speakers?

@Gavin - I know you addressed that to Patrick, but since I am having a similar issue with the same equipment I will respond...

  1. I am not sure exactly what you mean by having the power cables isolated... I am using the power cable that came with the DDJ-SX (2-prong ungrounded), and running it through a surge protector. I am running the speakers through a different surge protector.

  2. The noise happens even when there is no computer connected, so yes, I tried swapping the USB, but that has no effect.

  3. I have tried a bunch of different audio cables. For the main XLR outs I have tried GLS audio cables, Mogami Cables, and monster cables. For the 1/4" booth output I tried Monster Studiolink cables...

Any help is appreciated.

I have found out that when the laptop is not connected to the power cord the hissing noise disappear!! I am not sure if it helps but actually my problem is that. Without power cord connected to my laptop not any noise at all. I need now to find a solution for that.

At this point I would return for repair.  I haven't seen this with the DDJs, but when I first got into powered speakers, years ago, I was told that some will let a buzz thru so I used a Hum Eliminator to lift the outbound signal and remove the buzz.  I am not saying that you need this course of action, but that was how I addressed it then.

Contact tech support and say that you would like to send it in for a look...
