[SOLVED] Serato stop working while i'm playing - DDJ-SR

It happened two weeks ago while i was playing live on a gig, and today as well, while i was playing at home.

Serato freezed and i was only able to control the master level. I had to restart both the DDJ SR and Serato.

Really hope it won't happen again.

Both the controller firmware and the Macbook Air are updated to the latest version.

I have seen on Internet that many people have the same problem and this is a known issue since the beginning of last December.

Now, i don't mean to complain, but a software- controller that freezes on a gig is quite a problem, and since the money i paid was TOTALLY working, i don't think i deserve a PARTIALLY working Controller-Software. Am i right to say it?

Thanks.

Best Regards

Sorry to hear about the troubles. Which version of Serato DJ are you running?

DJQuote:

I tested it last night for 2 hrs and no freeze.

I tested it today for 3 hrs with no other software running then a sec ago my left controller play button became inactive. It's still visible and illuminating on the screen when I press it but no change in the audio.

@Martin > I thank you to start your own thread on this issue so as not to complicate things. I have deleted the posts.

@Rog3R > The majority of the users posting to that thread didn't indicate what their computer / operating system were. Also, a Serato employee said that they were able to replicate the issue and are working with Pioneer to resolve it. So until then, not much I can do from this end. Sorry!

Well...

Thanks for your reply Pulse.

In the while time, why don't you guys release a DDJ-SR Mapping for Traktor?

Of course Pulse, i'm not complaining you as a person, but...I mean, it's not fair that people who bought the controller can't use it, because they are afraid that it may stop during a gig. It's very embarassing, and people do not understand nor even care about Dj's difficulties... I've read that this thing has being going on since the beginning of December, and i guess such issues should be tested and solved BEFORE selling a product, not AFTER.

Am i right to say it?

I'm right there with you - I'm a working DJ who relies on equipment at prime moments and don't want to sweat my system failing.

Straight up, products are NEVER designed to not work. Engineers and production teams test the snot out of these products but their real-world testing time is limited and the wide array of variables that the users experience presents a whole host of problems and methods that these teams may never have tried / foreseen.

When you guys have problems, presenting the problem with detail, the nature of the steps to repeat it and giving the engineers time to then examine the problem, replicate it, find the source of the problem, fix it, make sure it didn't break something else, then releasing it ... all takes time. So yeah, it's been going on since just over a month ago, but that's still not enough time for all those steps to occur, so your patience is appreciated.

And the reason a Traktor mapping has not been created is this product was designed for use with Serato, and despite the problems, will still perform better with Serato than Traktor.

@Roger and @Martin > The engineers have reviewed your comments and feel that there may be a fault with the unit which can not be addressed by firmware; they recommend that you contact your retailer for replacement or serviced.

I'll leave this ticket open for now in case you have any other questions.

Should others visit this thread with a similar issue, I encourage you to create your own, new, topic and we will help you there. Do not reply with "me too."

Mmm... Thanks Pulse, but you know that this is simply unacceptable.

I live in Thailand and there were very few units in the shops, so it's going to take months before they send my controller to Singapore, fix it (I strongly doubt it) and resend it back.

Since i didn't do anything wrong except trusting Pioneer and buy the controller, why don't you send me a brand new WORKING controller?

Considering that i've been waiting almost 2 months to get this answer, and i've previously lost my face during a gig, i don't think i'm asking too much.

@Rog3R > You are perfectly entitled to a refund or replacement but that will involve sending the unit back. If you purchased the unit out of area then, unfortunately, you'll need to pay to send it back. We constantly advise never to purchase out of area for these very reasons.

good day.   i have the same problem. ddj sr freezes when i move the tempo sliders.  I use an asus i5   with 4G ram. on windows  8  I have observations that might help:

  1. I found that if I dont use the load button, the problem does not occur.

  2. I also observed that the lights of the deck loaded light up as if  it were being rebooted..  is this normal? any possible connection?

I have not yet  updated my firmware because the  dialog box does not appear even if  i have already pressed the indicated buttons and the led lights are already  flashing, as per instructions.

please help !

Hi have purchased the DDJ-SR recently and have had it freeze at gigs several times. I am running serato dj 1.6.2 on a Macbook Pro 2011 with the latest Maverick OS, also using and external hard drive with firewire. I've narrowed it down to the freezing being contributed to when I try and slow down or speed up the bpm. For some reason the right combination of things going on while doing that and boom. board is frozen and doesn't respond. So I reboot. I hope this can be resolved soon. I am thinking of bring this controller back, although I don't want to, I really love the features on it, but to have it freeze while performing is unacceptable, not to mention unprofessional. Bug fixes please.

LOL.  Have you the tracks through an MP3validator to make sure the tracks are good?  Corrupt files can freeze controllers.  If not you may want to contact Tech Support and see what they suggest.

Can someone confirm that this update resolves the 'Controller Freezing Up' issue?

*Firmware Update 1.07 (Release Date 01-14-2014)I don't like screwing with firmware unless it's absoloute nessecary - I don't like 'bricks' LOL

*

FYI I've tested the native firmware version in a controller MFD November 2013 (purchased April 2014 - directly from Pioneer). I had no issues in a month of testing at home. I bring it out publicly for the first time and I get the Controller to freeze three separate times. Volume knob the only thing that remains working on the controller - Yet ALL functions work properly within Serato DJ (2.5.0)

Primarily on the right deck. Apparently the right pitch fader is a culprit in the freeze but I am not 100% on how to reproduce.

I think it's a combination of adjusting the pitch while touching the platter or one of the cue buttons simultaneously.

Any official help would be appreciated

I'm on a MBP OSX 10.8.5 w/ 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 - 8GB of RAM

I've had zero issues using my Rane 62z with both SSL & Serato DJ

Sorry Gavin, I know you posted the 'most recent firmware', but i want to be sure we're taking the same version 1.07

Also where are the instructions on how to update the firmware?

Cheers,

B~

FYI: I finally just found the Firmware Update guide

http://pioneerdj.com/support/files/img/DDJ-SR_Firmware_Update_Guide_E.pdf

  • IMO this is way too hard to find guys, you need a link from the main product page / where you download the firmware itself

http://www.pioneerdjusa.com/ + http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/DJ/Controllers/DDJ-SR

The two previous links should lead you to the PioneerDJ.com website to keep things manageable from both sides.

You can download the Firmware Update from the product page but have to goto support and dig for the actual instructions - there's a disconnect that will cause a lot of 'bricked' units guys - suggest this be all in the same area (you choose - Product Page / Support page / or both)

Just a suggestion -

Thanks for the response Pulse,

I guess you missed the link i posted;  Because from this page  http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/DJ/Controllers/DDJ-SR

There is no way for a user to find / download the instructions. You can actually download the firmware directly without even seeing the other available info.

I was suggesting that the link from the pioneerelectronics.com page take you to the page you have posted.

Thanks,

B~

For the Record -  I have updated my unit to V 1.07 and have not had any issues with using it since

And I'm still running a slightly older version of Serato DJ (1.5.2.) As i can't update to 1.6 or higher at this point because I use both the DDJ-SR and my Rane 62 (with the same computer - but obviously not at the same time)

Thanks,

B~

Guys, the engineers have assured us that this issue was updated with the 1.07 firmware release:

Ver.1.06 -> 1.07 (9 January, 2014 Update)

-Fixed an issue where a DJ application might not be controlled by the DDJ-SR when the TEMPO sliders on the DDJ-SR are moved.

If you have not updated the firmware (and verified that it has updated), that is likely the problem. Also - your software should be updated. @B-Side; you can have two different versions installed at the same time.
