[SOLVED] XDJ-R1 - Can a USB device be swapped during play?

The specs indicate there is only a single USB A port, meaning only 1 USB storage device can be plugged in. Anyone know if the USB drive can be swapped during playback without interrupting the music? Perhaps by caching the currently loaded tracks into memory.

yeah, this was a concern f mine too, the more I loved this controller for the first 5 minutes of release, the more I don't like it. If I needed to grab a song at a job and throw it on a flash drive, or if a client walked up with a track on a drive, theres no way for me to play it other then carrying blank cd;s and having to burn it to cd to play which means your back to bringing your laptop to every gig. They should have allowed more then 1 drive to be plugged in through a hub or something

oh well, this was the controller I was really looking forward to but have to pass

lol...you guys are unbelievable...first you ask for USB playback ...okay...now your asking to be able to use USB playback, but also be able to remove the USB while it's playing, without interupting the music at all...to swab USB sticks or something like that? Is that really what you just said?

yes, like the other decks they have with usb playback there is an option for easy changing of dj's, If there is a track playing it would have been great to be able to hook your ipad up like you would most likely anyway and push a track from it to the non playing deck so the other dj can pull his usb out without interrupting play.

Honestly it isnt that big of a deal in Pioneers eyes (or mine for that matter) being this is geared more towards very small parties and bedroom dj's.

plus, not sure what you mean by "you guys",,,, I havent been asking for usb playback, they all do that already, What I wanted that i think is practical for todays mobile guys is something similar to the AERO which plays from USB AND you laptops Rekordbox library, But it should have ABC hot cues also, so Pioneer does a new deck with ABC hot cues and usb playback but took out the laptop part and took out 10 memory points too. So for me, they still haven't hit it on the head for a portable unit. Definitely nothing worth me leaving my 2000Nexus' and DJM900 home

Im also baffled at the "you guys" comment by Greg Potter. Ive never asked for USB either.

Its a simple question which still hasn't been answered.

BriChi comments are valid there are many situations where being able to swap the usb device would be beneficial.

In my opionion it would be a very simple function to load a track into the internal memory, would be great if that was the case.

If not then it wouldn't be a big deal to keep some cds on hand to play during a switch over of the usb stick.

I don't want to deal with (or go back to) CDs at all.  Burns are horribly unreliable.  Entire reason I made the switch to media players such as the 2000's.

Now, as for switch-overs, I'm a selfish bastard when it comes to controllers...something like the R1 will be mine-only-mine.  Last thing I need on a busy festival schedule is to have someone 'oops' a freakin' beer into my livelihood.  They can get their own controller.

BriChi-  we are on the same page on this R1 business...  I especially want those damn cue points, and the waveforms.  I don't like the fact I need another device for control (but they got the reliability/dependency aspect right.)  If the device handled cue points, and the app showed them along with the waveforms, I'd tough it up and get the damn thing (and the 2000's take their rightful place to satisfy tech riders on my events and in the studio.)

@Jaz > No, this can't be achieved nor do I believe will it ever be possible. I'll certainly request it,  however.
