do i need to pay for the upgrade if i buy rekordbox DJ today?

Do i need to pay for an upgrade when say rekordbox 5.0 comes out? or will it be a free upgrade if i just bought 4.0.6?

Rekordbox is free.

The "Rekordbox DJ Performance Pack" requires a license key which can be purchased outright for $129USD or via monthly subscription ($9.90USD/mo). Think of it like some of the apps on your smartphone... The basic app is free, but you get expanded features and capabilities when unlocking the paid upgrade.

Your previously purchased license key WILL continue to work for newer versions of Rekordbox. You will not need to purchase again.

I doubt you will ever need to purchase again, They may release additional plugins you can purchase but the "performance mode" plugin to enable Rekordbox DJ I'm sure will have free updates for the future like serato has done with Scratch Live

Help me understand that if I had bought the DDJ-RZX for $3,000, I get a “DJ” license for free? Yet I spent $7,000 on the new (2) CDJ2000NXS2 plus DJM900NXS2 and must pay $129 for a license. I have purchased three controllers and all have licenses for Serato or Traktor. This is a very, very bad business model.

Why buy $7000 in nexus decks to use it as a $3000 controller? Seems like a waste. Just use rekordbox as intended, it's free. I would never buy nexus decks to control rekordbox Dj. Just buy a much cheaper controller like a RZ
