So I am unable to get sound from my DDJ-SR using Serato DJ.
I am using Windows 8.1 on an Intel i5 2500k
Speakers are connected to the booth out. Headphones are also connected. When I select the "Speakers - Pioneer DDJ-SR" playback device as my default device, I can listen to music through iTunes with it; itunes music and system sounds come from the speakers and from the headphones.
I have searched through the forums and on several occasions you guys mention that you must have the default device be the internal soundcard/onboard sound. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to do that since by hooking up my speakers this way, no speakers are plugged into my motherboard. Thus, it says "Speakers - Realtek High Definition Audio - Not plugged in" in the playback devices area and the option to select that as a default device is greyed out. On the other hand, I also have devices such as the "Realtek Digital Output" and the "Realtek Digital Output(Optical)". I doubt these are what I'm supposed to use and I have tried them to no avail.
Very frustrated since this was supposed to be a plug and play device. Not only did I have to spend hours realizing that this device needed a crucial firmware update, and then having to figure out there's a hidden way to be able to flash the firmware. Then realizing that the device is finicky with USB ports, having it unable to connect with my computer until I do some weird shift play start up to enable utility mode that is not mentioned in the manual. Then I reverted back to Windows 8 from Windows 10 just for this. Now finally I can get Serato DJ to recognize my device (it finally swaps to showing the full 4 decks) and being responsive to button presses (at least visually on the screen) but being unable to actually hear anything.
I would like to have an understanding of what exact playback device configuration I'm actually supposed to use to have this work. Is there anyway to factory restore the firmware on this unit and reinstall it?
