The metronome is simply so you can hear how well lined up your beat grid is. If you out the metronome on and it sounds out of sync with your beats then the grid needs adjusting.

Hi, I'm new to Rekordbox DJ, can anyone tell me what the metronome function is for? Are there any video tutorials available online?

No, you'll just hear the metronome click/beep isn't lined up with the beat... So it'll sound out.
To be honest I don't use it much... I'd prefer that the metronome was actually a beat ... Think I'd be able to hear how well the grid is lined up better than the beep.
