DDJ-RB: Master Level knob has no effect in PC Master Out mode

Hello,

I've recently purchased a DDJ-RB controlled. I've installed rekordbox dj, installed latest v1.001 driver and updated the controller's firmware to v1.02. I'm using Windows 8.1, default sound output device is set to speakers, not DDJ-RB line.

If I have the audio device set to DDJ-RB ASIO in rekordbox (which is the right setting I presume) I have the sound coming out from the speakers of my laptop and sound from headphones connected to the controller, but the Master Level knob on the controller doesn't have any effect on the volume coming out from the speakers, as if it was always all the way up, and the visual master level knob in the rekordbox (in the upper right corner of the screen in the performance mode) is dimmed. I can adjust the master volume using the levels in the Windows mixer on my laptop though, but it's highly inconvenient as I have to use mouse and keyboard instead of the controller.

If I switch the audio device in rekordbox to Speakers - I can hear music from the speakers, the Master Level knob affect the master volume coming from the laptop's speakers, the visual master level knob in the rekordbox is showing the level set by the knob on the controller, but I have no sound coming from the headphones connected to the controller whatever I do, e.g. switching on all the cue buttons and setting headphones level to the max.

Every other button or knob is working fine.

This is because the sound is being routed to your PC's main volume control.

I'm having the same issue with my DDJ-RB/rekordbox running on El Capitan... master volume knob having no effect on internal speaker output level. Also having an issue when I plug in an external speaker to the headphone/auxiliary port the program won't recognize it and continues playing from internal speakers (still no control over master volume).

I've toggled with many combinations of settings between rekordbox audio settings and my mac's sound preferences but Master control stays unresponsive/greyed out regardless (until I disconnect the DDJ-RB, only then does rekordbox allows me to control Master volume by clicking/dragging on the digital interface's master knob in the upper right corner)

Please advise what settings might correct this.

I agree with Sergey that we need to be able to control Master volume without having to manipulate our respective PC / operating system audio controls... it's just common sense to not want to switch between DJ controller and PC every time we want to make a output audio adjustment.

With this in mind, when I record a mix, I need to know for sure that the audio level I'm hearing is equivalent to what's being recorded by the rekordbox program. As you know, the headphone volume knob alone has no effect at the level the mix is recorded at, and I'm doubtful that when manipulations to output volume occur using my Mac OS instead of the DDJ-RB/rekordbox it's actually being recorded as a proper Master.

Sorry to keep piling on in this thread but every time I plug in the DDJ-RB, rekordbox creates a dialog telling me that I don't have the most updated firmware... and every time when I try to install v1.02 for Mac, the "installation" begins (dialog tells me that I have 1.01 currently installed and is going to update to 1.02) but every time stops at 0% and tells me "An error occured. It was not possible to update this program."

I know it's a very very new product, having a lot of fun with already, and I'm really stoked that you guys are building out a suite of controllers integrated with rekordbox -- so hopefully your support team doesn't mind troubleshooting a little bit with us early adopters who were willing to invest in a product not as tested as others.

I took a bunch of screenshots of settings and dialogs... please let me know an email address at which you can help me resolve my ticket!

All the best.

I understand what you guys are asking for, but I don't see a practical reason for wanting to change the PC volume level with my controller when the controller is doing its own thing as an audio device?

@Joe > Please open a new topic for other support issues so as not to confuse this topic.

It's not about changing the whole PC volume, but the volume of the sound coming out of the rekordbox application. As I said - the master level knob is working exactly like that when I choose Speakers as the audio device instead of DDJ-RB ASIO, so why it can't behave the same way in the PC out mode?

Hey guys,

I agree with you, i have the DDJ-RB, and now I'm concerned about this.

Regarding PC master out could you help me? I turn on PC MASTER OUT, but nothing happen. I connect the controller with PC trought usb cable, and the controller with my phones too, it possible listen the music on my phones, but its not possible listen on my speakers.

The only reason to do that, is because i believe that my sound card (Creative sound blaster Audigy SE) is better tan the DDJ-RB, and in this way i dont need change anything to hear sound from windowns and from controller.

My firmware is 1.02, driver software 1.100, rekordbox box is 4.2.1 rev 8297-9071-9067 x64 and my windows is 8.1 Pro x64.

I am having exactly the same issue as Sergey with the Master Level on my DDJ-RB (firmware 1.02) on PC Win 10.

Audio setting to DDJ-RB ASIO:
All controls and functions (including headphones) working, except master level knob being deactivated:
Sound level can only be controlled by PC volume slider

Audio setting to Speaker:
All controls and functions working, including master level knob.
-But no sound in headphones connected to DDJ-RB.

What is strange:

when following this guide

https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115000016383/comments/115000027823

it talks about dropdown menus that are not there in my rekordbox. I am not able to choose as master out the soundcard of my pc. any suggestions? (i really would like to use ddj-rb with an external usb soundcard, while still using the headphones inthe ddj)

I also have this problem. If I connect to the PC via a line-in on my sound-card the volume works as expected, unfortunately I get too much line noise using the line-in. I agree with Sergey that the volume control should change the level output from the software so it behaves like it does while using it's own sound-card.
