DJM S9 - Cross fader dead spot in the center

I have my S9 running the latest firmware and serato dj.  When the Fader is in the centre there is silence.  I cant figure out how to change it.  I tried changing the fader curves on both the channels and the cross fader with no effect.  The sound seems to be dead in the centre and gets louder as you approach either side but the fader is set to have full volume as soon as the fader is away from the sides. Please help!

Can you tell me if the same thing occurs when using line inputs or just with software?

I only use it with serato. I can test it with records when I get home to see if the same effect happens. Have not tried that yet. I don't have cdjs so not sure what I could use to test line inputs.  I just have my turntables plugged in direct.
